With both Squaw and Alpine scheduled to close memorial day, does anyone have any recommendations for places around tahoe to hike for turns in early summer? I assume there will be plenty of snow around... I read somewhere about the Fourth of July Chutes above Homewood. Anyone been there?
The 4th of July Chutes are up at the top of Barker Pass. Drive up to the top of Blackwood Canyon, park, and hike up to the left.
The Chutes by the Mt Rose ski area should hold snow into June. They get less over there than on the crest, but it's 8-9000' feet and pretty much north facing. About a 30 minute hike from the top of the road, best done as a shuttle with another car at the bottom of the Slide/Rose intersection.
Lemme know when you're coming, I'll join ya for a couple!
