Value of helmets! - Page 2

MikeN2UZU,  you left off my other statement.

Like I said a helmet is worth every penny you spend on it and you should definitly wear  a helmet. As you pointed out a helmet can prevent long term permanent injuries.

I just want people to know that ski in control, keep your speed down, ski with a helmet, but ski like you normally would if you were not wearing a helmet.   The helmet is probably not going to save your life.  Staying in control and reducing your speed has a much better chance at saving your life and possibly others skiing and riding around you.  Be safe out there.

Absolutely.  Sorry, I didn't mean to create the misimpression that you were against helmets or that I was arguing with you.  I focused on the second half of your post only because I used to use what you said there (i.e., even the best helmet won't prevent every death) as a reason not to wear a helmet.  That was just plain foolish reasoning on my part, and I thought that sharing my past experiences would show why.

Well said.

We don't already have enough helmet threads?  Now we need to resurrect 7 year old threads too?

Rider Jeff and Uncle Crud posting in this classic helmet thread are just two of the attractions in this thread. A good helmet thread never loses it's sparkle even after 7 years.

Classic thread nominee for sure. .  So the answer is yes.

I should find every old helmet thread and bump them up to the present for old time sake.  That would be way cool.

I thought a helmet was dumb, but the guy who was teaching me was wearing one. So I figured, I should follow his lead.

Well, my third time skiing, I finally needed it. I have no clue what happened, but I stood up and over the back of the p30's I went and whamo, the helmet saved me.
I still had a hurted head, but it would have been far worse if I had no noggin bucket on.

That's a good point Talyn . One good reason for instructors and parents to wear a helmet is the example they provide those that look to them for guidance. I agree with this and often  when I am with young kids I will wear my helmet for no other reason than this one.

It's just one reason but it's a pretty good one.
