Mt. Snow 3/17/08

My wife and I had the day off, so we went to Mount Snow yesterday.

Mt. Snow is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from our house in CT, so it's not that bad of a ride at all. We left the house around 7 and were on the lifts around 10ish. Temps in the AM were in the low/mid 20's with a pretty good wind blowing. Skies were clear...amazingly clear! You could see for miles and miles. The views were just awesome.

The trails were in pretty good shape. Exhibition was good for the first few runs, it was skied off by the afternoon. One More Time was brutal in the morning! It hadn't been groomed so the previous days mashed potatoes were frozen solid. My skis rattled so much, my feet hurt by mid run. Deer Run and Long John delivered yesterday. They weren't that crowded and the snow remained good just about all day.

Since we both have Friday off, we're going to head up again.

Enough talking, here are some pics:

I was amazed with how much snow they have up there. Here in CT, it's been nothing but brown lawn for weeks. In parts of Dover, the snowbanks are well above the guard rails on the roads.

we got some snow last night - gone already though

I know there's a Winter Storm Warning for parts of VT today. It looks like they're going to get a mix...some frozen, some rain. Hopefully, the rain doesn't melt too much of the snow up there. (fingers crossed)

yup ... btw I've also heard there is a "gorilla" of a storm (snow possibly) heading up for Sunday night into Tuesday morning.

Keep your fingers crossed. Truth be told, at this point of the year unless there's snow I have no use for the cold anymore - let it warm up! Otherwise rain just makes mud season worse ....

Let's just hope it's above freezing tommorrow, or else nobody with any lick of common sense would want anything to do with Ripcord until it gets some repeated love from the winchcat!:

Let's just say that on Monday, the view of Ripcord from the Challenger lift was, well for lack of a better way to put it, really, really, really "shiny", and that was BEFORE the "immature snow" event of the last 24hrs hit. I'm expecting to see some really full streams on my drive upto my place at Mount Snow tonight

I think it's supposed to get cold tonight...and be windy tomorrow. It'll be an interesting day for sure!

Anyone in this thread lucky enough to make it up there today? Nothing like 5" of fresh snow. Great conditions. I'll start a new thread later.
