I took ~ 850 photos but will have to deal with sorting out some of the best ones a little later.
First time at all these resorts but a quick overview:
Incredible steeps. The back wall of Fuez Bowl was one of the steepest things I've skied. It's a long way to the bottom of the bowl but there are virtually no obstacles if you happened to have a near-death slide. Good steeps all over the upper mountain. Below the Bowls & Ridges the mountain has some good terrain with steep tight trees holding deep pow days after a storm. However, there is very little grooming and lots of big bumps everywhere so very tough on tired legs. IMO, not a great place for Intermediate skiers because of the limited grooming. Looong liftlines for the gondola on a Saturday was a real p.i.t.a. When there is a white-out on top this makes things very difficult. Most of the time we had sun though and no crowds midweek. Great views, great great terrain for good skiers!! I give KH an overall +1/2 out of 5.
Skied there on Sunday. NOBODY on the lifts or trails!! Fastest lift system I've ever seen. Huge huge vertical and the most consistently steep terrain top to bottom I've skied in a long time. Ski Snow Rodeo top to bottom - holy crap - what a sreaming downhill run that is!! Fantastic steep upper mountain bowl with nice light powder in the trees days later in and around Vertigo. Lots we didn't get to ski but I will say this: revelstoke is THE BOMB already, and there's much more to come. Too bad its so dang far away. I give Revy
Most interesting terrain of all. The most "Fun" to ski. Phenominal grooming - among the best I've ever seen. Great place for all levels of skiers. Plenty of steep expert terrain side by side with easier stuff for the rest of the gang. Overall slowest lift system, but my legs were shot by the time we hit Fernie and the weather was great, so we didn't mind the rest. Lots of dips, rolls, and aspects all over the place to work the sun. Some great snow on North facing slopes. Nasty crud on some other aspects. Trees were much tighter than I expected - not nearly as inviting looking as Revy. Some looked ok, but snow was cruddy. Fun mountain that seems to get flat light more than others at the end of the day - get there early. Best town too. I give Fernie +1/2 (but it would have been a 5 if we had gotten to ski some legendary pow).
OK, here's a few pics:
More to come when I have time!
