DumbWe say "there are no IQ tests at the ticket window" but...
We had a 5 inch snowfall on a week of crusting conditions. You know, rain etc, then cold etc.
Well, our steepest run had a snow slide on half the trail. Top to bottom on the steepest part. A 10 meter width and 65 meters downhill, maybe a bit more. Concerned about the possible slide of the remaining snow, we sent a couple of patrollers to check out the trail, then, on the first hand experience, closed the trail, setting up some additional pop fence to let everyone know that ducking ropes was not OK. Skiing this trail today would be no fun!
Well, it wasn't long before a call came in that someone was injured on the closed trail. Turns out, the fall ended in a severe laceration by the riders own equipment. So.. so.. bad.
The guest slid to the bottom of the run, fortunte I suppose, so there was no rescue needed, but after providing first aid, we pulled his season's pass.
The punishment was not for duckng the rope on a closed trail, No, But for being so STUPID as to not check out why the trail was closed before poaching it! The bottom of the pitch is easily viewed from another open trail.
