Hi Everyone....

Thread Starter
I'm moving to Montana shortly...gonna open an alternative medicine/new age bookstore...I think it'll really take off. And I'm gonna learn to fly fish too.

Before I go, though, I need to buy a new SUV. Any thoughts? I'm kinda leaning toward the BMW, but I hear the Hummer is way cool and a lot of people in Montana are buying them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

" I'm moving to Montana shortly...gonna open an alternative medicine/new age bookstore...I think it'll really take off."

You know how to make a small fortune opening an alternative medicine/new age book store?

Start with a big fortune.

"And I'm gonna learn to fly fish too."

Flyfishing is for poofdas. Git yerself a Zebco, a telescoping rod, and some chartreuse Power Bait. Hand grenades work even better.

"Before I go, though, I need to buy a new SUV. Any thoughts? I'm kinda leaning toward the BMW, but I hear the Hummer is way cool and a lot of people in Montana are buying them."

Hummers and Bimmers are for poofdas, too. What you really need is a '79 Dodge Ram 1-ton. The more rust the better.

"Any help would be appreciated."

Here's some...

The first Saturday night you arrive, walk into the seediest cowboy bar you can find and announce that cattle ought to be banned from grazing on National Forest land.

That ought to endear you to the natives and ensure lots of business for your bookshop.

Good luck, pard.

Don't listen to Bob, get one BMW and one Hummer.

Montana has horrid cell-phone coverage. Having a vehicle built with at much metal as a Hummer will only make reception worse. Go with the Beamer.
Please. It's Bimmer, not Beamer. Just ask anyone at the nearest Resort.
I'd wait a while before buying the Hummer--I don't think a gun rack is yet available for the rear window.
I thought Bob offered some sage advice. And, if you're really lucky you'll get a hummer in the back of your Bimmer.

Just don't buy black! It's a hobby, not a color.

Montana Newbie, there is a guy around here named gonzostrike that is in the know in some backwoods town up there. I'd wait for his reply, should be full of good advice. I'm sure he would be happy in a bears kind of way to show you around town!

While a new age book medicine store sounds a little Haight-Ashbury to me, I wish you the best of luck! Where are you moving from anyway? I think a Starbucks would really hit it off well up there too!

Also, on the SUV thing, check out the Mercedes, I hear those things can really go through the goop without spilling your latte in your lap, a good thing to sue for as I am sure you are aware. But if that does happen, I am sure that our lawyer friend gonzo would be happy to help you point a finger at the guilty party. There is that new Honda Element and the Pontiac Asstek, but I think that those are probably below your price range.

Anyway, best of luck up there in your new home town!

In English, both are described as Beamers. The cars are normally driven by "wide boys" to use a good old 90s term, and the X5 is driven by footballers wives, or those whose money to sense scale is in the negative.
If you want to be more new age/alternative, why not buy a vehicle more environmentally friendly, and suited to your lifestyle.
Both Trek and Specialize (SP) make good quality road and mountain bikes. These will maintain your fitness, work better off road than the BMW, contain little metal, so will make it easier for you to talk on your cell phone while riding, and will mean less money for GWB from th petrochem industry. To me it seems like the most obvious thing to do.

Why don't you save some money and buy two Subaru's. Why don't you stop flaunting your wealth and help the community your moving into. You will have to charge high prices for all medicine and books to pay for the life style your used too. How many of the local people will be able to afford what your prices. Remember your not moving to New York City.

MT Newbie,

You should know that epidurals are a thing of the past in Montana...Something to keep in mind in case any "natives" want to park your Beamer/Bimmer for you.

I think hospitals in Wyoming and N. Dakota still offer an epidural and I understand that the citizens of Wyoming are keen on welcoming "Newbies" of alternative persuasion with a fun hazing ritual.

I would give up on the store & since you are moving to Montana soon, I would become a dental floss tycoon, raising it up and waxing it down.

This thread is disturbing. I can't believe the number of bears that can quote lyrics from an obscure Zappa song.

Thats an Obscure Frank Zappa song? Silly me, I thought That It was The Montana State Anthem! Just a thought You may want to consider moving to Wyoming,Where Men are Men and the Sheep are nervous.

get a real truck, a Chevy Silvarado Club Cab(with gun rack in the back window),a Tahoe, or Dodge.
You'll find a freindlyier recepection from the locals if you buy American if you live in Montana.
Hummers?/// hmmmmmmmmmm,i go to Mt 5-6 times a year, i have only seen 3 of them, and they had out of state plates.

Bimmer? Is this a BWM? BMW means Break my window! Expensive to maintain! Hummer? Just damned expensive to start with. Great vehicle but spendy. But then if someone can sell drugs without a license one might afford a Hummer.

Aside from the jest, a Hummer would be nice but so very spendy. Save your money for the lifts!

It's facinating how we all think we need SUV's and/or 4x4's these days! Does anyone have pictures from the 30's and 40's etc of cars up on the mountain? Hmmmm? Now how did they get there?

The important thing is to get there and have fun.
