An article about the Winter Park death said it was the tenth inbounds skier death this year in Colorado, which makes it more or less an average year, actually. This study
found that there were 274 Colorado skier deaths from 1981 to 2000, so a few more and we'll be perfectly average (actually we're probably about there already since the study apparently included non-resort skiers). They also found that 81% of the deaths were males; I'm not certain, but the Winter Park death might have been the first woman killed in-bounds this year in the state.
