I'm sitting here in my office this AM and I am talking to one of my folks. She tells me she was just talking to her friend who was in Vail a few weeks back. I asked if she had a good time, "No", she said, "there was too much snow" she stayed in all week...... :

My old boss owns a condo in Vail and she leaves anytime it snows.....doesn't want all that powder messing up her groomers:

One could say: "I know where he gets it from."

Did you ever test out that Speed-O-Meter?

I bet all of the people who were on the mountain skiing all that nasty snow were quite happy to have other folks stay inside. I know that on a powder day I never mind seeing people staying in.

BTW - Finn - I got your VM - I'll be in the Summit Co area the last week of March. Turns?

for those wondering, Its a Tech4O skiing speedometer that is radar based. Long story short, it broke, they replaced it, it fell out of the harness it comes with, they replaced it, I just got a new one and will be testing March 12-19. It's the ultimate gaper toy!

Greg, I will be at the boat ^ so if that works, I would love to make some turns and let you set the mark on the speedometer.

My wife used to work at one of the accommodation's on the hill. Every time it snowed she'd hear these kind of comments. '...there's too much snow', '...they don't groom enough here' etc.
But with most people after a few days of listening to the powder adventures of others over a beer or two, they get caught up in the powder hype. Most of the time by the end of their trip, they've done a 180° turn and think powder is wonderful, even if they can't really ski it.

I could not agree more. Powder skiing has become highly glamorised and marketed. It is used to promote new gear and to draws tourist but has become oversold.

Most resorts are skied out with only a thin layer or crud remaining in just a few hours, even after a dump of 12 inches; even on a weekday.

I'll admit to wishing that powder skiing was not promoted, but the cat is out of the bag. My thanks to TGR : and ski porn, both of which I can live without. (Just don't take my fat skis).

you are correct! I think many think they want to ski it but many find that they can't and also find the the low-light and soon piled and bumped terrain is not what they are comfortable with. Now then, where's my 94's....

He did. And road plows too!

Should have to earn your way to the good stuff.

(although, after heavy rain and a 40+ drop in temps sometimes groomers are OK - but NEVER on a powder day. )

Wow dude, you should try someplace other than Colorado or Utah. I hear Montana and Idaho are nice.

Man, you must either be really unlucky or have a real problem finding even obvious stashes. I can find powder a day or two after a storm at Alta (the world capital of powderfrenzy). I won't even get into Solitude. I really feel sorry for you poor guys who never get any. Well, not that sorry.

See, I often find the apres skied out in the evenings and have a hard time finding the goods, but I know that is because I'm doing it wrong. Even on weekdays.

I always stay in when there is any snow on the mountain - it's so slippery and obnoxious.

Chairlift conversation about a great deal on a jacket

Vail: Don't you just love my marvelous Jacket? Its a "one of a kind", and I got it for only 999.00. I hope I can get as good of a deal next year when I buy my new ensemble.

Abasin: Doooood, I only paid 89.00 for this coat on SAC. It'll probably last for a coupla seasons.

As of lately, SAC is a clearing house for crappy women's clothes.
