FINALLY (Killiington Making Snow)

I just picked this up from www.killington.com:

"We're making snow! Colder temperatures have arrived. Killington plans on making snow right through the weekend. The goal is to get open for skiing and riding sometime next week."

Only a month later than it should have been... : : : : : :

Finally! Hopefully the natural stuff is not too far behind. I find the early skiing at Killington a bit sketchy, but it's a start. I usually make my first trip north once the mountains start hitting 30-40% open. Too early for the crowds, but usually enough to get some decent skiing in, and the deals can't be beat. You just have to book them at the last minute while checking the weather websites & snow reports.

To me, the day Killington fires up the guns is the Fall equivalent of groundhog day in the East. It's a harbinger of things to come or not to come. If Killington is able to make snow in October, it will be a good year. If not, well, we better start buying tickets to Salt Lake City, or Denver..

Does anyone recall good years in the East that started late? I know I have experienced them but I can't think of one offhand. 2001-02 sucked here in the Mid-Atlantic and in Europe, but since I never made it to VT that year, I forget if it was any good up there.
