Soul of a Skier

This survey is to plumb the soul of a skier.
Hey Nolo, How much thought did you put into these questions? Wow! Be careful of the white/black thing. It didn't fare well with Rush Limbaugh.

The one about sexy skiers was tough, but although while there a few hot babes who ski, most who ski good are not hot. And, even the ones who do look sexy with all that ski garb on really don't look good when Summer comes around.

My idea of a perfect job would be that of a Heliski guide or being C.E.O. of say Vail or the American Ski Company.

A fun poll anyhow.

about sexy skiiers - as Homer said, d*mn Flanders and his sexy *ss...
I'm not really a fan of Dick Bass, however the job sounds great. Would that be considered a FLAW?

Are skiers better drivers? Well, the Sea to Sky highway between Vancouver and Whistler has the worst accident rate in BC, a province with a lot of mountain roads.

Skiers tend to have better command of their vehicle, and THINK they're better drivers, and all the other louts in their way are incompetent idiots. It is no secret that aggressive drivers have less regard for others on the road, tend to cause more accidents and road rage, therefore they are worse drivers... on a race track, they might be better.

An interesting topic. What was the purpose? Skiers are people, too, aren't they? Aren't we just as diverse in our opinions as any other social group? A problem I've often encountered in training is to assume that instructors share certain opinions and personality traits. They simply DO NOT and that's what makes this such a fascinating occupation.

I could vote a yes on the last question only if the fashion gurus bring back stretch pants for women!

How can anyone call skiers as a group sexy, when you can't tell a gorgeous young woman from a rickety old great grandpa on the slopes?

I posted the poll to find out how many of us 1) think we have rhythm, 2) should not use the rhythm method, 3) have any idea who Dick Bass is, 4) actually drink Diet Coke.

(It was just for f-f-f-fun, f-f-f-folks.)
Snowboard chicks are generally hotter than ski chicks (sorry )

And Diet Coke sucks, Pepsi One baby!

Screw all the criticism. I thought it was a GREAT poll!

PS, D@mn right I'm sexy and have rhythm!

The phrase I once read here, "function of utility" (or was it "utility of function"?) comes immediately to mind. If I could just recall where I read that...

Good to see that "just for fun" is now okay, as i'd always hoped.

well, ryan, don't look at me, that sounds a bit on the clever side for my kinda post.

You really needed a "Don't know/Not applicable" one, for some, question 4 is not applicable, I don't know is my answer for Q 5, Q 7 needed the option for multiple answers, and Q 8 is debatable, particularly after spending too long on Q7!

Meant to add...
The soul of this skier is 321mm.
(or should that be sole?)

What isn't applicable is FALSE. (This ain't rocket science.)

Notes on the survey--
Way back when my driver's ed instructor claimed that the better the skier, the greater the aptitude for driving. I've found this to be true with the notable exception of downhillers.

Skiing always rates high in popular perception as a sexy sport. Does it not follow that predominantly sexy people are drawn to it?

Kudos to the facile few who flagged the survey for lacking Other in the drink choices. That would be its singular, but fatal, flaw.

hmmm... obviously you are talking about the women skiers in new york. : i beg to differ and should introduce you to a couple of my friends... but i can't cause they don;t wait around for slow skiing men at the bottom of the hill

great survey nolo... skiing, quiver, beer... i'm all a-flutter
post #16 of 24

I'm not putting a bum rap on Nolo for the survey. Just trying to add some levity to it.

Thinking Nolo might be bored though.

And, I know there are a few hot babes who ski, though you are right, not very many in N.Y.

I've seen some around, mostly the western states.

And, I think I can keep up with 99% of them.
While most of what I'm reading is that there are not many "hot" women skiers out there, I think that 99% of guys who ski (and board) are HOT.

It's not the physical appearance that makes one HOT. :
I chose diet Coke only because I generally don't consume alcoholic beverages and I couldn't pick my real drink: H2O.
Yes, I AM a DAMN fine driver, and could give a rats ass what my insurance agent says. JR, don't slow me down on my way to mountain!

Skiers sexier? YOUNG skiers may be sexier. Old skiers are rugged, and vaguely remember when their skin looked as soft and supple as a well worn baseball glove.

As far as rythm, that may be a chicken and egg situation. Do they have rythm because they are skiers, or are they skiers because they have rythm? I guess either way they probably do have more rythm than your average flatlander.
Nolo, fun poll. I do not have rhytm, except when skiing.
But, of course, I'm not white, I'm Italian
post #21 of 24
And that means that I'm the best driver around!

thank you bonni, a very good point...i would rather be a rippin' skier and not a supermodel, no sitting in the lodge painting my nails and reading a novel because i can't keep up with my s.o. beauty is in the eye of the skiholder

You're right.
It's the thermal layers, the t shirt, the fleece, the jacket, and the fact that you're wearing this on a beach in Florida when it's more suited to the snow.
Finally, a meaningful, useful poll. Damn right, we are sexy, good on the hill and on the road and when not using the rhythm method (too much to worry about unless we wish to pass on our love of skiing to our kids). While a Power Bar will do for lunch, one must supplement with a great dinner. Water is a must during the day but one must really balance that with beer, wine or liqueur in moderation during apres ski. There is nothing sexy about a drunken fool.
