SAC Mythic Riders???

I ordered the Mythic Rider Fluids from SAC a few days back. The skis came in yesterday and I noticed the stamping on the ski indicated it was a 90 mm waist. I thought the Mythic Riders were 88mm waist ... anyone have any idea what is going on here? Is this a real Mythic Rider??

just a guess

the dimensions may change with size so sidecut remains the same

Hobbes, what length did you get?

They were 172 cm.

I've got the older orange skis in 178 and they are stamped 89 underfoot. I guess they grew out to 90mm now. I understand the mythics have a wider tip now.

I haven't been on the mythics but may if I get the chance.

If any bears picked up more than one pair or don't want the 172 they purchased, I'm your man. [Wishful thinking, I guess].
Sent you a PM.

And I sent you one back. thanks

hobbes429 -

I can't find anything saying the Mystic Rider is 90mm wide at the waist. I bet you got some cheap Chinese knock-offs that are unsafe to ride. If you want, you can send them to me and I'll give them a through shake-down.

Don't know if Dynastar's spec sheet has a misprint or not but every Mythic Rider in that size that I have seen at a retail outlet is 90mm in the waist.

Yeah, weird. I have the 165 MRs and the top sheet says it's 90mm waist. Just went to the website and on the technical specs it says 88mm. Not that 2mm makes a difference to me, I still love to ride them, but I find it odd.
what are the 178's?
I spoke with the folks at SAC and they have a "gear guru" looking into this situation for me. I also sent an e-mail to Dynastar to see if they can clear things up. Everything on their site indicates 88 mm waist regardless of length.

Atomic had the same scenario a couple of years ago with their SX line of skis the spec sheets were inaccurate for a number of the models. the SX10 comes to mind.

186 Line Prophet 130s were up around 1:30. They were going for $385ish.
^ if anyone happened to pick up an extra set I will happily take them off your hands. I was in the checkout and once everything was complete the skis were sold out.

Line anthem for $192 right now. Only 171s though!

Mythic Rider Width Question

I thought I would post an update to the thread about the width on the Mythic Rider skis. I had some back and forth correspondence with the Dynastar/Lange U.S. Product Manager and he was able to clarify. He spoke to the engineers in France that worked on the Mythic Rider. Apparently, in the 172 length, the published dimensions of the Mythic Rider (122-88-110) fall into the range of a prior patent. In order to get around this, they considered a number of options but settled on the 90mm waist as they felt it skied most consistently with the design parameters for the Mythic Rider. All of the 172cm Mythic Rider skis, therefore, are 90mm at the waist by design. The reference length used for the dimensions in all of their published material is 178cm. The lengths at 178cm or greater all have the 88mm waist width.

Just an aside, I was pretty impressed with the consistent responsiveness of the U.S. Product Manager. His communication was quick, complete and very helpful. Score one for Dynastar.

Mythic Riders on the Storm

Just a word of thanks to Quickk9 for passing on the Mythic Riders he picked up on SAC and to Trekchick for keeping me posted on my hunt for them. They are two examples of what makes these forums a true community. Now all I need is a dump to ride them in.
Thanks again guys! Rob

Smith Turbo Fan Goggles - $64.65. These goggles stay fog free in the worst conditions. The only problem is this model does not fit over glasses.

I have had these goggles in the past and just bought a new pair from SAC. This is the best price I have ever paid for a new pair of these.

Picked up a pair of these on SAC too. Hopefully they will arrive before this weekend so I can try them out.
