Question about Poles (and another one too)

Thread Starter
My aunt just gave me some skis so I didn't have to buy any. She gave me some poles as well but they're about 10cm too long (115cm). I'm just wondering if it's really bad if my arms go more like 80 degrees rather than 90 degrees?

Just another question. I don't really know how to wax my skis. Are there specific types of waxes that I should use? Would I be better off having the shop do it for me? Also, how often should I wax them?

Dont know what level you ski at but there is a thread running on pole length.

Poles that are too long will screw up your body "mechanics" when turning. In short, you will be lifting a shoulder or bringing the pole around at a weird angle to compensate and this will affect your balance.

Depending on the type of pole, they can be cut down but it can be a challenge getting the grips off.

Most people are using poles that are slightly too long.

Check out the other thread on this for the discussion. I bumped it to the top for you.
