At least at the Bellingham REI store, all clearance items priced at 50% tomorrow, Friday. Also today they had gots and mantra's priced at $519. Gotta love REI!

Well, i don't love REI.

They have not behaved like a good community corporate citizen. I can't say why without jeopardizing a good organization, but let me just say they acted miserly and unethical, so that as a once-supporter of theirs to vocal, local critics, I've now switched sides and will go out of my way not to shop there.

Mom, do tell. I have been a member since joining in Seattle in 1970. I have had a great experience with the staff and like their products. I enjoy the dividens too. I know knowthing of their corp fo paws but my experience as a consumer has been good.

mtbakersnow,
Before you spring for those skis check what's happening down at Yeager's first. They have some of the best prices I've seen on skis at the end of the season. I bought my Elan M666s and my Fischer Atuas there and walked out the door with skis and bindings for under $450 including tax each time. I also bought my boots from them for $140, down from $600.

I will Posaune, and thanks. By the way, haven't said hi to you in awhile, sure you, like I, have been observing forums like always. Hope you're having a great year, how can we not with all the snow. Maybe we'll meet up sometime this year? I was just on tgr site, talk of avy at bottom of gabl's near the water tower almost burying 3? Interesting talk. Take care, I'll be up tomorrow.

Posaune: I too hope you're having a great year sliding on & through the bottomless at Baker and Whistler. You rip it up with the best of 'em.

re: Yeager's, you're absolutely right. Their bargains can't be beat.

BUT, never let those dudes tune, grind or do anything to your skis (except, perhaps, mount them).

I friend in Bellingham had her ski's tuned by Yeager's, and she had to discard them - unsalvagable.

They're good salt-of-the-earth folks, but they're primarily a hunting/sport fishing and boat shop.

Still, it's a great place to find deals.

PS: I thought Fairhaven had the Fisher contract for Bellingham. I wonder if they dropped Fisher? If so, bad move. Fisher makes awesome skis.

Fairhaven is still carrying fischer.
They're at both places. I got my Fischers at Yeager's in April and I saw another pair of Atuas at Fairhaven in August. They wanted $50 more than Yeager's so I felt vindicated.

I completely agree about Yeager's shop. I wouldn't let them touch anything of mine.

Good to hear from both of you, guys. The season has been fantastic, hasn't it? It looks like we're in for some warm, wet stuff though. The first since mid December. I hope it doesn't last long.

Yes!

These are possibly the two "hottest" skis of the year.

I just bought some Gotama's, and I couldn't find them at any shops near me (I live in Broomfield, just north of Denver, CO). The guys at Christie Sports said they sold-out of Goats and Mantras long ago - all at full price.

Ultimately, I was glad to find a pair online, for $525 (including shipping, free binding mount, and no sales tax).

183's (Goats) and 184's (Mantras) were especially scarce, even online.

I don't need the baby size, I'm looking at the 190s! Lol jk, about the baby size. But seriously I've heard they have plenty of stock in store. So does that mean they sold out just online?

I don't know if they're protecting margin by selling in-store-only, or accommodating Volkl online policies.

But, I've been told these are the easiest-to-sell skis in any shop west of Iowa.

If you go for the 190's, be prepared for some major heft. Unless you're a beefy boy, or you commonly ski big lines (AK type), you may want to demo or check other threads. Those are big sticks, especially the metal-clad Mantras.

Thanks for the input. I definitely want the goats. I was thinking 190 because I heard the actual surface area is a bit shy of that. I ski 185 Volant Machete FB's right now. I can't imagine any ski coming even close to that in weight.

Fair enough.

Given your history and preferences, the 190 Goats may be perfect.

Thanks man, I think I'll wait for some to pop up on eBay. I can't see paying over $500 when I might not be able to use them this season.

How are they on groomers? Do they hold an edge alright?

Mine arrive on Friday. I'll let you know on Saturday .

I bought mine from Colorado ski Outlet (actually located in MA - but still a good name), for $525.

When you consider: no tax ($40 here in CO) and no shipping (usually about $30 to $40), the $525 is actually closer to $485. Not all bad.
