Toronto / Ontario locals: you should go skiing tomorrow.

Thursday Feb 6th, that is. Forecast calls for 12" of powder overnight in Orangeville area, and crystal clear skies after:

Quote:
THE HIGHEST SNOWFALL FROM THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO FALL OVER THE GODERICH TO PALMERSTON TO ORANGEVILLE TO NEWMARKET AREAS TONIGHT WITH UPWARDS OF 20 TO 30 CENTIMETRES POSSIBLE THERE BY THURSDAY MORNING.
Slacker me-without-a-car can't get to the local Hockley Valley ski hill, so I'm going to just hop the Greyhound bus up to Collingwood area. That is, unless you want me to pay your gas money for a ride.... :

Seriously. Let's go. 300' of vertical and 12" of powder is enough for anybody.

I have been skiing in some great powder here in Mont-Saint-Anne. It has been a good week with 2 big snow storms. Life is good.

I predict that my school will be open. I have to teach. The buses might not be running, but the schools will open. Besides, the snow will have stopped by tomorrow morning, and it will all be groomed: by the time the lifts open. I just have to get up early to shovel the windrow the plow will leave at the end of my driveway . I still like the snow though .

I got up to Collingwood (took 4 hours Wed night, vs. 2 normally) - very epic, although I missed most first tracks because of having to dig my car out, but things were pretty empty, still got tons of great fresh tracks, generally about knee deep and nice and dry - way better than the usual Ontario concrete we get.

Alpine had an avalanche of sorts on the Free Fall run of the Steeps chair - around 4:30 or so a big slab of all the snow that had built up from the night before which was basically just built up on top of a slab of ice let go. I saw the aftermath, rather nasty - slab was 2-3 feet thick, took out a snow gun or two.

Good to hear some other bears got up there. I'd agree that it was 'epic' by Ontario standards.
