Fernie Conditions are Simply Sick

Basicly we've been getting hammered for the last week. (Newfydog you picked the wrong time to leave town!)

30cm in the last 24. 62cm in the last 48. For a grand total of 172 cm in the last 7 days. That's 5.7 feet for those who are metrically challenged. We are now well over a 3 metre base.

I snuck away from work for a couple hours yesterday morning. I was skiing on my 188 Gotamas and was still sinking well past my waist at times. The deepest I've skied this season so far, and it's all blower.

There is more in the forecast. Yes life is good in Fernie!

You can't make posts like this and then complain that all of calgary is down for the weekend.

After having my way with all that virgin powder all week. I'm okay with letting Calgary have sloppy seconds on the weekend.

Same storm in Oregon, just deeper, with no avy closures. Of course, visibility is near zero.

I think everyone in the West is getting slammed right now. Kirkwood is reporting 8 feet in the last week, blower pow last Wednesday, slightly heavier wind pack the last couple of days but still absolutely awesome conditions. Another 2 to 3 feet forecast for today and tomorrow. Bring the snorkel!

75 " the last week at Stevens Pass, WA.

This is turning out to be an great year. I didn't need to use my rock skis once this year and probably won't have to.

Is there anything steep enough there to slide?

Yesterday they had it all opened at 9:00. The crowds were there in full force of coarse. I nailed Gorby Bowl first thing right from the top, totally fresh line, skied straight over the extreme hazard area, which I would normally avoid but it was so deep. Almost 2 meters in the last week and it finally opened yesterday...simply put epic!!!.... maybe the best run of the year??...ah but there are many more to come

I'm in between cameras, so I didn't take any pics of my own. I borrowed these from TGR.

.....And they just keep getting sicker. I've skied the last 3 days and everywhere has been 'epic'. This morning the avi guns are a blazin' again there's probably at least another 20cm. Not much for crowds either, the road conditions around Calgary have been keeping lots of people away.

This is Blair, Fernie's #1 snow cat guy on Snake Ridge on Friday. Yes it is as deep as it looks.
