@brucetherunner, I cheated a little here and there. Please remember I went through a bi-lateral processs twice. The first time I went through this was back in June 2012. My OS was VERY agressive. He sent me to PT less than two weeks after my injury and told them to bend me to 90 degrees. Then, less than 1 month after surgery told PT to bend me to FULL ROM. With the help of PT putting me in intense agony, the agressive exercises, allowing me to perform QUAD activation while extending my legs, ripped the tendons from my patella. I was living that nightmare 9 months after I thought I should have been healing, but instead was regressing. Sorry to come off some intense, but I really would hate to see ANYONE go through what I went through. If I can help ANYONE avoid that through providing information for a protocol, then great.
Often if there is a repetitive extension before the tendon has properly healed to the patella a patient may experience, pain at the junction (similar to tendinosis), excessive scar tissue build up that causes an extension lag or a divet at the superior pole or junction of the tendon to patella. I am not saying this happened to you or will happen to you, but you might consider staying closer to your protocol.
I am sure more than 50% of us have cheated.
- Not using your brace in the shower
- Not sleeping with your brace
- A walk around the house without a brace
We have ALL done it I am sure. Brace Jail sucks. This injury sucks. What sucks the most for me was that I had to go through it twice on both legs. I am FINALLY starting to feel recovery at the end of the tunnel.
