Hey there Tom North-
I echo your sentiments of "just walking" when I tore/ruptured my right quad tendon in 11/2012 the feeling of helplessness was intense! I was lucky to be living in a one floor apartment with an elevator; but just walking from the living room to the bathroom or getting into bed was near impossible for the first 3 weeks.
I also had the "falling nightmares" for many nights. My fall was in the parking lot at work after a snowstorm and I hit the pavement hard!
I will see my Ortho doc tomorrow for evaluation of ROM and so on for Workman's comp. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I don't still experience swelling, stiffness and sometimes pain from the site. Not sure what can be done to elevate this. I am a motorcycle rider and tend to ride long distances. After a ride of about 230 miles this weekend (with 4 stops totaling 3 hours) I had to ice my leg and elevate it for the night. Advil helps a great deal, but I don't want to rely on it.
Good luck to you and to everyone that has experienced this type of injury.
