Utah Gathering Day 2 @ Solitude

I would suggest we meet at 9:30 am in the Moonbeam Lodge cafeteria/restaurant. This is the main day lodge adjacent to day parking. I think a second meet up time at 1:30 in the Moonbeam Lodge would be good as well.

The seating area should not be crowded in the morning but will probably be quite full at 1:30. If there are no tables we will just congregate in a corner somewhere. Just look for a large group of people.

Big Cottonwood Canyon does not close as often as Little Cottonwood Canyon but still can face closings, especially with the stream of storms that are predicted. One of the biggest problems in the Canyon is the black ice that is common in the lower canyon around the sharp turns. Please be very careful driving up and especially down BCC Canyon.

I would suggest apres ski at the Thirsty Squirrel. The Squirrel is in the Solitude Village which is about a mile up canyon from the parking area. You can ski right down to the village at the end of the day but will then need to get a ride down to the day parking area. There is a free shuttle that runs between the Village and day parking area but I'm not sure what time it runs until. I will check and report back. A better alternative is probably to drive your car from the day area up to the village after skiing. There is a small free parking area in the village that should have spaces at the end of the day.

From copius past experience, we've learned that not everyone makes it up the canyon and out of their transportation and over to the ticket office and booted/suited for a pre-lift-opening meetup.

Solitude is compact enough that anyone who wants to be in line for first tracks can go up on one of the first chairs at 9:00am and get a run or two in before meeting the larger group at 9:30.

This is easily done at Soltude.

It'll be okay.

Since we're on the subject, BW, have you set any timetable for Snowbird on Sunday?

not yet not sure were to go with it because its storming everyday.....it wont be 9:30. will post alittle thread tomorrow.

my problem is I go to sleep at 9pm and get up at 5:30am everyday drinking heavily enough to get a hangover is about the last thing I want to do, to much life to live to be hungover.

Some people just need more motivation to get there on time. I'm also familiar enough with these events that it takes a bit after the meet time to actually get on a lift. I'm cool with runs before the larger group meetup - just was curious if there were any other reasons to be aware of.

BWPA, I'll check with you Friday about catching an earlier chair on Saturday.

OK, I will take a run or two from the village on Powderhorn and then ski down to the Moonbeam Lodge to meet people in the cafeteria at 9:30.

I'll be wearing a brown hooded softshell, black pants, and a grey helmet.
