Atom Smasher at Jackson Hole

At the bottom of Tensleep Bowl is a big boulder with a berm around most of it. If you go real fast, you can do about a 180 degree bobsled run around the inside of the berm. If you go fast enough, you pop out the other side; if you go too slow, you slide inward towards the rock. I did it during a Steep and Deep camp in 2002, but there hasn't been enough snow the last few times I've been there. Now with the tram out, it's a hassle to get over to it. Is it back this year?

I'm not sure I know what you are talking about. We've gotten sooo much snow his year that things are covered daily. Some peeps are trying to establish the "workers wiggle" down the steepest part of the Bowl, but it keeps getting covered up.

No goat tracks this year.

It's about in the middle of the bowl, about halfway down where it starts to flatten out. I got a PM from somebody who said it was almost there in terms of building the berm naturally. Maybe last weekend was just enough snow and wind to get it right.

Cool photo BushWacker. So that's the "workers wiggle", eh??

Thanks for posting it.

still haven't had a chance to check out the atom smasher this month. It was gettin close about the middle of last month when I was last out there. My friend and I kicked some snow in to fill the bottom. I wouldn't be suprised to find it good tommorow.

Nice pix, Bushwacker. That looks fun; can you bail out on it in the middle of it or does it make you pay? It looks like a bobsled run.

Thats the wiggle from last year. It's been snowing and blowing too much to get the wiggle going this year. Most people (tourists) bail out half way or before. Sometimes they sit way back and slide out of control. If you stay in front and carve, you are hauling ass throught the banked turns. If you shmear a bit then the speed is more reasonable. I looked at the atom smasher today. It looks gnarly, but possible if you came in on the right. There is a rock on the left side. The wall is about 8' high and very vertical through the crux. I wish I had thought to take some pictures. It may be a week or more before I have time to go over there again. The Atom Smasher and the Wiggle are not the same thing.

Looked in there during the 2015 Jackson Hole Epic gathering.  I've never seen it as good as it was in 2002.

Just a fun bump.
