ski tecnique DVD

Gday,
I am looking for recomendations for ski improvement DVD/s.
I am an intermediate to advanced skier by Australian standards. Last season I really enjoyed a 5 day/ 6hrs on snow high intensity program which basically taught me how to carve. Our teacher said we were learning the practical, nut not so much theory side of level 2 Instructor in Canada.
When I carved correctly it felt nearly as good if not as good as skiing powder. I loved it.
I am one of those people that learn by watching and copying, but also have a strong need of technical explanation that helps my brain put it all together. Im thinking a good instructional dvd would be great with voiceover or an accompanying book explaining skiing dynamics.
It might be an instructors manual.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No worries. I moved this post from ESA to Ski Coaching. I'm sure you will receive a number of recommendations.

Anyone can be an expert skier 2 by Harald Harb. Book plus DVD. You can get it from amazon and if you use the link below Epic will get a small cut of the sale.

i stole a video called "skiing skool" from the internet. it was produced by the skiing club of great britain and is really really corny, but it had a lot of helpful advice. it probably helped me more than any of the lessons i took. there are two parts, the second may be helpful to you. it has tips for bumps, crud, powder, steeps, and speed. also you might want to check out http://www.sportskool.com/sports/skiing

I really like the "Breakthrough on Skis" tapes and book by Lito Tejada-Flores. The last one was made in 1999, but they are all very easy to follow. You can order one or all three on his website www.breakthroughonskis.com

Most libraries have the book.

I like Lito's stuff as well. The overall method is a bit 'gentle' for my skiing tastes, but the video is great and its got a wonderful vibe about it.

Here is another one - "the way to better skiing", 11 videos, but probably not high level enough for people here.

Lito...the man!!!

Lito Breakthrough 1 is actually a must see IMO for all skiers. The photography, music and overall vibe is goosebump inducing.

All of the drills, tho demonstrated on pwr 8 salomons will still make any intermediate a better skier....a bit dated...sure, but still bombproof.
www.breakthroughonskis.com is a great place to start your quest.

I also like the older Harb expert skier videos - I have both of those.....I am looking forward to the new one. I've said before, I think Harb and Jerry Berg are the best demonstration skiers on the planet. Berg is featured on Lito's Breakthrough 1.

Oddly enough, I have never seen the 1999 Lito video...I need to pick that one up some time. I think it features a lot of Harald Harb footage.

The free stuff I turned you on to is real, real good as well.

Enjoy...and report back in your thread with what you have viewed and like, I am sure others will find it helpful too.

I agree, the Breakthrough on Skis series is a must have for any serious skier. Jerry Berg is in all three of Lito's videos. He's an amazing skier, particulary when you take into account that he's skiing on straight skis in the first two videos. The third in the series, Breakthrough on the New Skis, features a host of top flite skiers, but Jerry and Harald's skiing really stands out. I particularly like the jaw dropping run that Jerry takes down Olympic Bowl on the back side of Aspen Highlands. Anyone that's ever been there knows just what I'm taking about. In fact, I developed a whole new respect for the skiers in those videos after my first trip to Aspen. The camera angle really doesn't begin to show how steep and difficult some of those trails really are.

You motivated me to dig that tape out and watch Jerry Berg rip it up. Great skiing in tough crud conditions and he's not on a 90 waist ski by any strectch either.
Back when that video was made, the K2 Explorer was considered a fat ski, with a 71mm waist. In some of the footage, you can see that Jerry is skiing on Elan skis, I'm guessing that the skis he was using on that run down Olympic Bowl were in the neighborhood of 65mm.

Harb's "The Essentials Skiing" book has a teaser DVD in it, with promises that the complete DVD will be out sometime this year. When the complete DVD comes out, that would be one to have for his view on carving . . . which FWIW to me is the most up to date, modern carving information that I've been able to find.

I really enjoyed the philosophy and technical advice on the Weems Brilliant skiing PDF file.
It really got me thinking about my feet in my boots.

Enjoyed the you tube instructional videos.
Could not order Litos videos due to some paypal Us australia hick up.
They refunded my money but asked me to email my visa card details instead. I think they are legit but I would never email my visa card details to anybody.

Drop Lito an email via www.breakthroughonskis.com. He answers personally. Tell him you heard about his videos here on epicski....I am sure he will work something out.

He is legit btw

You can also keep an eye on ebay....they show up on there occasionally....not dvd's tho of course.

I have never seen a more clear progression about short turn, sorry it is in Chinese, but if you click on the video, it is very clear.

Bode has done some vids that are all over the Net.  Here is one: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/487914/carve_turns_on_sportskool/ .

I found Alpine Ski Fundamentals II from the US Ski Team useful, but others think it is overpriced.  It is a CD-ROM, not a DVD, and includes lots of exercises and  good paper checklists that covers all the fundamentals of carving and more.  USST members did the demos.
