Who's Giving Up Skiing For Lent?

Not me

I might give up buying anymore skiing accessories even though when I get something I always say that is the last thing I will buy this ski season.

It doesn't work too well.

Hmmph. Try being Orthodox, (having to ski on) no animal products whatsoever (excepting fish) until April 11th.

You can hardly buy bread without some sort of dairy stuff in it, and even the pseudo-crab sticks have egg white in them.

Don't even let me get started about other natural ingredients.

Yes, until my knee heals

Pfffft! I might as well with all the skiing I'm getting in the next 2 months. Which is definitely 1 day. : Ah, well, I'll take what I can get.

I'm just going to give up tailpushing. Heh.

Movie: "Forty days and Forty nights" Giving up skiing is kidda like that.

All the skiing except one-three days(resort), is on a little hill close to the park.

I'm sure glad this is one question I don't even have to contemplate... L'Chiam or L'Ski which ever you prefer.

Sacrifice time .... OK!

I'll give up 1) Snowboarding, 2)Hucking, and 3)Bumps.

Do not give up .... That quiet moment at the top of the hill before your first run. That moment when you look out from that hill top and marvel at the view and all of the things and beauty around and below you!

It's probably the one remaining thing that keeps me in wonder and awe of creation.

Give it up? no, but I will cut back to, say 14 scheduled days in the next three weeks.

During lent I will stop:
Dating supermodels
Driving my Ferrari above 100 mph
Flying my Learjet to ski in Utah

I'll keep sking, though.

Jesus would want me to ski.

Back in the 1960s there was a Catholic priest in Manchester, NH, who was also an avid skier and a tireless proselytizer for both the Lord and for skiing. He even had a half-hour TV show on the local station called "The Skiing Priest".

One sparkling Sunday in early spring he stood in front of his congregation, half of whom were dressed in ski clothes and just straining to get onto Route 3 and head for the White Mountains. His sermon included the exhortation that it would be a greater source of Grace to be worshiping God by enjoying His mountains than by sitting in a stuffy man-made church building. The skiers all got up and headed north.

The Skiing Priest was "reassigned" within a month.

Either: I am truly religious and will be giving up skiing and all the sins associated with it (riotous living, drinking, women)

Or

I live too far away from the mountains and have no chance of getting there in the next 38 days.

Either way I won't be doing any skiing in Lent and I'll let you make you mind up which is which!!

... and forgive us our tail pushes
as we forgive those that tail push before us (even though they screw up the bump line).
Are you kidding? I might give up skiing for the summer, but Lent? Not hardly!!
I'm going to reflect on

my failures in technique,

my sloth in not skiing more,

my lust for more gear,

and my other sins of ommission and commission,

and then do 40 steeps, 7 bump runs, and 4 bowls for penance next week at Whistler.

Seriously, skiing makes me face my limitations in living up to what I could be. Actually very fitting for Lent.</font>

"Jesus built my skis. . . . .It's a love affair, mainly Jesus then my skis"

Anyone remember what song I pulled that from. Name it and win 10 cooties!!

Well, I've been trying to decide which I should give up for lent: skiing or sex. I thought about it and realized that I have three pairs of skis that I bought this season waiting by my front door...and no girlfriend or wife - and none in sight in the near future.
So it looks like I'm giving up sex for lent.

I vaguely remember a song called "Jesus Built my Hotrod", by Ministry.

Hilarious! Along those lines, I'm giving up drinking expensive beer since I can't afford it and drink PBR.

Back when he was known to his bros only as Karol, the pope was reportedly quite a ripper, going down big in the Tatras.
