The full title is Downhill Slide; Why the Corperate Ski Industry is bad for Skiing, Ski Towns, and the Environment. It was written by Hal Clifford, a former editor of Ski Mag, and Aspen Daily News. There was nothing earth shattering for those of us who are in the industry, but it is a very interesting overview of the state of skiing in the US. As an employee of an Interwest resort, and a ski town homeowner (not a second home), I found it to be very in tune with the feelings of many in my small town. I I just wish it was available in paperback, instead of hardcover, so that more people would read it. You would think the Sierra Club would do that. Maybe not.
