Hello all,

Planning a short 3 or 4 ski trip to Fernie for early March. Having a tough time finding any info on discount ski tix or coupons. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'll be there the same time. Far as I've seen, there are NO deals to be found at Fernie. We'll have to ante up for the daily rate : but a possible day trip to Castle Mtn. may also be in the works.

There used to be some "buy one pass, get one at half-price" weekday coupons available either from the Entertainment Guide or the Student Union Ticket Pack, but over the past couple of years the blackout exclusions on those have increased.

Actually I just checked, it's valid from Monday to Thursday and the blackout period is March 21 to April 6. Does that work for you?

Well, I'm not sure who that was intended for, but 1st dibs go to eastcanuck since he posted the question. However, if there remains any way for me to get my hands on any of these, I'm interested in whatever I can get.

I will be in Fernie with 6 friends and skiing March 5-7 (Wed to Friday). So there are 2 days I (we) could use these. Which source were you referring to that has them and how can I get ahold of a few?

If eastcanuck doesn't chime in, maybe you can send me a PM when you get a chance. Thanks!

Carve Meister....how is the Long Island trip planning coordinater doing?

What was your final itenary for this trip?

Where are you staying?

My wife and I leave for Fernie in 10 days.

We will ski at Fernie Feb 1-4 rest a day and then ski at:
www.chattercreek.ca for three days and then collapse and head home to NH.

Although we may cut Fernie short one day at go to Kicking Horse.

My wife has a freind who is an instrustor at Kicking Horse and she said that Castle Mountain is a little short on vertical but has some great STEEPS.

It is about a 90 minute drive from Fernie

Hey Allen, thanks again for that info you sent me. Here's our itinerary:
Arrive in Calgary on 2/29 @ 1:10 pm.

We nailed 3 Ford Escape 4x4 vehicles from Hertz for 8 days at a grand total of $179 each. - Yes total! :

Drive to Golden.

I found what looks like a dynamite place: http://golden-bc-guest-house.blogspot.com/
We have the entire place to ourselves for a great price with full breakfast included - cooked by the owners who live next door. Plenty of room for our 7 to 8 guys. (Just booked this last week) We stay there 4 nights with 3 days to ski from base camp Golden.

Ski 3 days at Kicking Horse or possibly just 2 with a day trip to LL or maybe Revelstoke. Although if KHMR is in great shape, we'll probably just ski there.

On day 4 we leave and head for Fernie. Depending on how beat up we get our first 3 days and/or conditions, we may decide to ski Panorama along the way on day 4 and then continue on to Fernie in the evening.
If we need the day to rest we'll just sightsee along the way.

At Fernie we check into the Best Western for 4 nights with 3 days to ski.
Probably ski all 3 at Fernie, but maybe we'll run over to Castle for a day.
Never having been to Fernie, I think we'll probably not want to leave once we get there.

Saturday, March 8th we head back to Calgary for a 2 pm departure.

Right now, I'm spending lots of time at the gym. I'm going to try to be a slightly less fatbastard so I don't get my butt kicked after just day 1!

Be sure to post a trip report for us when you get back. Damn, that Chatter Creek skiing should be phenominal!! ::: Have a blast!

$179 for the week...I am impressed!!

The trip to Lake Louise is about 60 miniutes while I have been told that the trip from Golden to Revelstoke is at least TWICE THAT TIME.

Therei s more than enough terrain to ski for two or three days..
Be sure to have lunch on top of the mountian at the Eagle Lodge.

I will post when we get back including dinner suggestions.

Attached to the Best Western in Fernie is " Boston Pizza"

Perfect for all the guys

Thanks for the responses. I saw the 50% off 2nd ticket on ebay but I've just been invited last minute by a group that already has their tickets so I wouldn't be able to benefit from that. So far the only other deal that I've seen is $65 through the Alberta AAA (they call it AMA) but you have to be an Alberta resident for it. Worst case scenario I'll ask my Uncle to buy those for me. If anyone hears of any different deals I'd love to hear about them or PM me.

Thanks!

Give Boston Pizza a pass. Kelvin's Kitchen just reopened after a flood and they are right across the street, nice people, and need the business. Ask for a shot of my (doug's) armagnac.

Try Gabriella's on the mountain.

Isn't the Yamagoya across from the BW? Great Sushi! I would particularly recommend the Kazan Roll or the Kryptonite Roll. : Although I note with some dismay that they no longer carry Faceplant Ale.
Yamagoya is ok, and the Sawai Thai is quite good. For some strange reason our best options are Asian.

Well, this trip is looking better every day. My two favorite cuisines are right nearby? Excellent! :

Dinner In Fernie

My wife and I will be skiing at Fernie from Feb 1-4.

We will have one meal for sure at the" Old Elevator"...should I assume the food is still good?

Where else might you suggest?

Do you know if the Sushi resturannt is good or bad?
The food is good if you like fancy beef, but the prices are so high we call it "the Elevator Shaft"

Last time there I had nice Ahi but served over rotted mussels which permiated the fish.

Go for Bison steak at the Corner Pocket instead.

NEWFYDOG....We will be in Fernie from Feb 1- 4.

Would it be worth blowing off Fernie one day and travellng to Castle Mountain?
I'm away for a bit so it is hard for me to say. Castle is an upslope storm area...look for wind from the east to bring the big dumps. When they come you have a big area with few skiers.

You might want to check out some of the latest photos on their website.
Here's one from yesterday: http://www.skicastle.ca/staff_pic_da...oPictureID=697
Naaah...not worth it.

Smart move renting the 4 wheel drives. A couple of years ago I used to travel up in Alberta for business and I would bring my skis so I could catch a few days of skiing. I probably hit Fernie when they had the worst conditions they ever had in years. It hadn't snowed in 2-3 weeks , a few days before I got there they experienced torrential rains and then went into a deep freeze. My first day out, there was an electrical failure on the mountain and they couldn't run half the lifts. Fernie is realy a great mountain and with good snow I'm sure it would be fantastic. Sounds like you're sampling about evrything Alberta has to offer. Hope you have a great trip.

Fernie For The Carvemeister

We just got back today...
Fernie was in excellent shape...although I hear it is raining in town tonight.

We had dinner at Boston Pizza (next to the Best Western) twice and at at the Corner Pocket in town twice.

Every one says that the CURRY BOWL has great food...we just did not have a lot of time.

Ask for Diane at the Best Western...a terrific lady...she will be more that helpfull for dinner ideas.

We then went cat skiing for three days in Golden at Chatter Creek.

Am amazing place.

Hope you have fun and if you need some literature on Fernie just shoot me a PM

ALLEN

PS:
With Johan Santana now pitching for the NY METS let me know if you want world series tickets

GO METS

PPS: 3.5 hour drive from Golden to Fernie
