Well, let's see..... I've got about 40 days in this season. Probably a portion of 20 of those days were spent skiing with my two kids.

They are 3 and 5.

I think the key is where you live. I don't think I would drive several hours with my kids just to ski with them for an hour and a half before putting them in daycare.

By the way.... I couldn't even IMAGINE not having a single day in by Jan. 20th. I would be going insane!

For the past few years I haven't been getting my first day 'til after Valentines Day: That's when my pilgrimage to Mecca..(Mary Jane) began. I just couldn't get excited about skiing in Michigan.

Today I'm going for my tenth day of the season and I'm stoked about it, thanks in whole to the Epicski community. I'm stoked from a technical standpoint because Epic has gotten me to finally pay attention to my turns so I enjoy going out and 'practicing' on the hills of dirt we have here.

From a community standpoint, I have been invited and enjoyed skiing with somewhere around a dozen Bears so far. I've always been very happy as a solo skier but this is a new dimension for me and I'm diggin' it like an old soul record.

So thanks Epicski. I can't think of a better way to spend $20

I've often wondered if I would feel the same way if I lived by Detroit. I'd like to think I would still go, but I can understand your feeling. Marquette Mountain isn't huge by any stretch, but it is worlds different than Mt. Brighton.

I enjoy Marquette enough that when I return from a trip to the rockies or Tetons, I go skiing the day I return.

Kids inspire at some point and will push you to be a better skier than ever. Trust me!
I don't have kids of my own, but my niece and nephew gave me the shot I needed to get back out there, and my brother in law(their dad) to Ski again for the first time.
Now the kids are grown and off to college, and 'grown ups' are still crankin' out the turns.

I miss the kids.

If you drove like Bumpfreaq, a drive up to caberfae is less than a day trip.
BTW, I've skied with him a few times and YOU, UP, have missed out on a real treat!

When I was 12 to 20 I used to get all excited every year around early October, get out all my gear, tune it up, and lobby my parents to help me upgrade what needed replacing. The local hil was usually open well before Thanksgiving. I've been on a daddy track the past 5 years, also had tight money issues (family medical stuff) until last year.
This year I started the ritual in August TIMES THREE to also gear up my two kids! :::
Still three hours from snow but LOVIN Epic on downtime:.

My husband has fond, fond memories of gearing up for skiing months ahead of time and then taking the school ski trip bus with his brother or the family's customized van : with parents and both siblings up to Snowshoe from Charlotte for those family fun ski days. So yay for NC-based skiing with the kids!

Me, I manage to have great memories of frequent trips to Bittersweet in Allegan, MI, oh Michigan Bears. So I hear ya. Even when their rental fleet still had metal Look bindings with leashes (looooong after that technology was dead and buried everywhere else) and you had to take a rope tow that ripped the palms off your gloves if you wanted to ski bumps. Skiing was fun, anyway. And kudos to my Dad and my mom (who detests cold and skiing) for steeling themselves to take me out there most weekends, in scotchguarded jeans and -20F temps!

I skied Thunder Ridge and Catamount Night Skiing, each for like 3 hours each and both very tiny mountains, extremely extreme mini mountains at night lol, but with MLK I have skied yesterday and today at Whiteface and tomorrow I'll ski at Gore.

Yes, now we've got our own "customized?" ski vehicle. Didn't really need one age 12-20 though. I grew up in Minnesota -burned up dozens of those pig skin glove covers on the rope tows myself-then moved around quite a bit before ending up here in NC.

Ha Yup, skiing with me is often better than watching a Three Stooges episode

Awesome, I'm stoked for that day too. Yesterday I dropped my 7 year old off at a lesson and went off to take a few runs. He started the lesson as a wedge turner. I got back a little early so took the lift up for a quick run on the short slope. As I am just starting my lift ride I see this little yellow jacket carving across the slope. That can't be my kid can it? Dang....that's my kid!! :
