Minnesota Bears One Day Convention

Thread Starter
As mentioned in another thread, the Minnesota Bears are in need of a one-day convention (gathering) to get further acquainted. I'm suggesting the following dates. Sundays at Minnesota ski areas are much quieter than Saturdays so how about Sunday February 17 or Sunday February 24 ???

Location - my suggestions would be Welch first choice and Wild Mountain second choice... Suggestions are welcome...

So here's the call-out: axebiker, tag, skugrud, mrm, howell3, reaper 51, mnbadknees, hamradio, mtkaextreme, deadmoney, stand up and join the proposed event.

Any unmentioned Minnesota Bears, Western Wisconsin Bears and any far reaching Bears are certainly welcome to attend. Western Wisconsin Bears are welcome as long as Packer talk is minimized

First round of beverages at the end of the day are on me...

The Nike ads say "Just do it..."

Afton?

How about Afton Alps?... Snow conditions are excellent, supposedly better than Welch, but I heard that from someone on the lift last week.

Wow, wish I could. However I will be, first on my way (17th), and then on my way back (24th) from Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Don't cry for me.

Afton is a reasonable suggestion... Terrain doesn't even compare to Welch...

Deadmoney, have a good trip... I'll just be back from Colorado...

Buckwild: Steve didn't mean to forget you in the original post...

I heard that..

Yes.. I have heard that the terrain is better at Welch. When are you going to CO? I'll be there 2/7- 2/11.

Admittedly, I had selfish motivation in suggesting Afton as I go there after working nights... but I would travel to Welch.. no problem.. besides it would be fun to try something different.

I skied Spirit on Monday and it was fun.. first time I had been there too.

I would lean toward Welch. My opinion is that it has better terrain, fewer and more mature skiers on the slopes. Tentative yes on being able to make it.

I like Welch - of course it helps that I have a pass there. I'll have to look at dates. I think the 17th would be a better shot for me, as I may be out West after that.

And yes, the terrain at Welch is much nicer.

I live in Saint Paul, and could take a couple Northern Bears with me if they want to meet at my place and save a little gas... I'd be able to take two I think...

Welch is fine with me also. A bit easier to get there from my vantage point south of the cities. Haven't skied Welch in years, so it would be nice to go back there especially since we have a bit more of the real stuff this year. However, I can't do the 17th - will be in CO.

We flew over Welch last night... looks about the same as Afton from the air... but that was at about 2000 ft.

As cold as it was.. there were still a few skiers out there.. I love it
Hope to meet some of you if this works out.

I'll have to check the date, I think I've got a trade show that weekend.

Any Minnesota Bears headed out tomorrow (Sunday the 20th) ? I'm going somewhere and it's currently just me... Probably Welch or Afton.
Yep - it's just you!!! -1F for a high tomorrow!! :::

I'm new to the Bears, but it would be to meet some of you, I could ski at Welch on the 24th, the 17th would be bad for me.

Let's try and nail this down and see who can make it. How about Sunday February 24th, Welch Village. We'll crank it up when the lifts open and meet in the "beverage" chalet when everybody runs out of gas
post #15 of 30
I'll do what I can to make it!

I think I'm gonna finally get to use the Heads this weekend, Greg!

Great

I can do the 24th at Welch... looking forward to meeting all of you.

Is anyone going to be at Welch tomorrow - 1/26? I will - let me know, and we can hook up. I've got new boots AND skis to test out - it could be an "interesting" day...

Welch Belch Iv

If any of you are at Welch on Sat 2/9. The resident freeheel posse is having a BBQ at Mad Jaxx over by the fire pit at noon. Bring something to share (salad, chips) and introduce yourself- we don't bite and we won't make fun of your training heels

bump.....

Are we gathering this Sunday at Welch?
Didn't notice this thread until now!

If there is another meet up I'd be game. I can't always be sure until the day of though, since something might come up for work.

Also, what's the best resort for a day trip around the twin cities? I'm thinking Welch is probably comparable to any other resort in the area. Coffee Mill has a larger vertical (425ft vs. 360ft at Welch), don't know if it's worth the drive though.

Are there any resorts that work for a day trip that have a bigger vertical and some more interesting runs? It kind of sucks just really getting going and then suddenly getting on the lift again (I know, I live in the wrong state).
