Broke my skis, need to fill a gap in the quiver

Howdy gang:

Yeah, I compressed the sidewall and ripped a good chunk of edge off my '06-'07 Nordica Top Fuels (178). The damage is too expensive to fix for what can be done. I really liked these skis for their balance between on-piste edge control and their ability to bust through crud. However, I never fell in love with the integrated ski/binding system, because if you break one, you break the other (I also destroyed the binding of a Solomon Pilot, thus relegating the whole package to the dumpster). My next pair of skis (and all future skis I own) will be flat.

Generally, I'm looking to replace the Top Fuel. I have plenty of race skis, so I'm not looking for on-piste only. Maybe a 30-40% on-piste, 70-60% off-piste. I'd like to have between 75mm - 90mm underfoot and a radius around 18m.

I was able to ski Stockli's XXL last month and was really impressed (my review of it is #24 on this thread - read it for more information about me and my preferences). Unfortunately, that ski is WAY out of my price range (law school student loans don't budget for a new pair of skis, so I'm pretty broke at the moment). Does anyone have any recommendations for a ski I may like at a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for all your great advice!

OK.. I'll bite

I know you have considered this.. but how about the AMC 76? A solid ski and there are some excellent deals.. like in the 325 range. If nothing else.. should tie you over until end of the year sales.

tough break.

my xbs system binding on my '06-'07 Jet Fuels is a flat plate that will mount on any flat ski, btw. Although, I will have to measure, mark and drill myself. You have a system ski, but I don't think that plate is actually integrated into the ski. It's mounted on it. (assuming that ski is the same as mine. which it should be.)

Sorry I don't have any other recommendations. I love my hot rods. I also plan on remounting the XBS plate on my next piste ski, assuming it's flat.

Oh... Rossi is apparently introducing some wood 80's waisted skis as the classics for '09, I believe.

I agree that the Fischer AMC 76 or 79 would be a great choice with the deals available but they do have integrated systems. Head Monster 78, 82 or 88 come flat and I believe Soly Furies can be purchased flat.

That's fine.... Push away if you can point me to a good deal! These are a bit too short for me, though. Don't think I'll go below 174 . . .

Thanks for the offer!

Beg steal and borrow and get yourself a pair of Stormrider XXLs @ 178. One awsome ski (I've just swapped Freerides for Dukes on mine) - arcs, bashes crud, floats and and you said in the other thread, cures the flu.

Aaaaarrrrgh!!!! Don't temp me Taxman! The best deal I can find on the XXL (without looking too, too hard) is right around a grand. WAY out of my price range.

There's a pair of new '07 8000 Legend Pros (178) on eBay for like $300. I'm concerned that I'll kill these lighter skis. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'll be demoing a pair of Monster 88 (186) tomorrow, but on a pretty weak hill (Eldora, CO). Maybe this is the ski for me????

Actually, it's NOT fine. If I can't sell gear in the classifieds as a non-supporter who posts here A LOT, why should he be able to pimp gear here when he doesn't post much at all?? Just sayin'... If there's going to be a policy, it should be enforced.

I don't know Axebiker; I guess I'm a little torn. I posted because I'm looking for a good deal on good skis. If someone notifies me of an ebay deal that kicks, then I'm all in. If, however, all people are doing is pushing their cr@p, then we should all be upset. I say; "no harm, no fowl." But who the **bleep** am I to say???

Wait!!!! Sorry Axebiker: I just noticed RossiFreeriders' pimping him(her)self on another thread, trying to sell the same pair of skis. Rossi: I thought you were trying to hook me up with a good deal that just happened not to be what I'm looking for. Rather, you're trying to hock your $hit to anyone who will bite. NOT COOL. But again, who the *bleep* am I???

Anyone else with more clout/posts than me have a comment??

I am not sure if this is ok. I have skis i am getting ready to unload but have not actively put them up yet. Reading your posts, they do not quite fit, but if they did i would let u know here as the price is reasonable and a good deal for the right person.

seems like a fine line between pushing where inappropriate and trying to help fill a need, but there is a line.

Look at it this way -- he's posted 4 times this year. 3 of the 4 are pimping his skis he's trying to sell, which are ALREADY FOR AUCTION ON EBAY! He hasn't posted in nearly two years prior to this.

Gotta call BS on this one. :

Nothing personal against this guy, but fair is fair. If this is going to be tolerated, then let "members" post classified ads. I'm not going anywhere, and I'm trustworthy. There's people here who would vouch for me.

The appropriate response would be to PM someone if you think you have what they're looking for. Otherwise, you're just hocking your gear and avoiding "paying the penalty" to do so.

Replaced!

Just replaced the Top Fules with a pair of Head Monster iM88 in a 175. I got to demo the 186s yesterday and liked them enough to pick up the smaller pair. John at Foothills in Genesee, CO: Thanks for the screamin' deal!!!

Post a full review when you get a chance. These are some skis on my short list of "check outs".
