Breckenridge late March or April

I have never skied out west before and I am thinking of taking the family to Breckenridge the last week of March or the first week of April and I was wondering how the crowds and conditions are during this time of year. Any tips for a first time heading out west?

Crowds should be moderate to light as most spring breakers will be done, could be a few extra tourists due to Easter falling on 3/23. Conditions can vary, but should be decent to excellent. Breckenridge has a very high elevation chairlift now assuring open terrain very late in season and snowsure Arapaho Basin ski area is about 30 mins away. If you have any apprehension about altitude sickness try an inexpensive prescription of Diamox, of course check with a doc first.

Actually the week of the 22nd through the 29th should be fairly crowded since this is spring break week for most schools (in my area anyway).

Yeah, but how many folks from NASCAR country will be heading off to ski in Colorado in late March?
If RH makes the trip I hope he or others will report on crowd factor. I checked and this Easter, Mar 23 is the earliest Easter for the next few decades, making it one of the better Easter Weeks for ski trips by families whose kid's school breaks are tied to Easter.

Hope James is right -- but not betting on it. Breck is usually pretty crowded in late March with spring break traffic. Management must anticipate that it will be crowded, as the ski lesson deal is blacked out through the end of March.

April is definitely the time for deals. Lodging prices come way down and lift tickets deals are available. Smaller crowds, especially midweek. While you can expect spring conditions, you can still get fresh snow at the altitudes in Summit County with A-Basin the most reliable.

Uh, actually most schools have break that week. Check flight and room availability. Lots of places are full-up already. We reserved our condo back in Sept.

In the East there is a huge drop in skier visits not long after Presidents Weekend, definitely by March 1.
Curious, would those in CO, UT and Tahoe say April 1 is the definitive date after which low crowds are almost guaranteed?
Sorry for thread hijack.

When I worked at Loveland, the entire month of March was always Spring Break madness (for Loveland). All of March was Spring Break at Winter Park last season. I would go for April for most CO resorts if you want fewer crowds. The snow is fantastic at Loveland well into May. They only close then due to lack of guests. Then it's A-Basin time till June. I would check the resorts websites and check their event schedules. They advertise their Spring Break crowd pleasers there.

I looks like it will be April. Can you help a newbie out and tell me what the A-Basin is?

A-Basin http://www.arapahoebasin.com is just over Loveland Pass from Loveland Ski Area. It is just before Keystone. Neither Loveland or A-Basin has slopeside lodging and are old school day areas. Silverthorne isn't too far away.

spring brak is 3/23-3/28 this year out here. Wil be bust then. April seems to be much lighter crowds.
