Cool!
That Extrem Sweet O looks like it has sharp radius, what a sidecut!!
Jsut when I thought ski graphics could not get any worse...
Nice link NorSkier Thanks!

Agree with matt7180 that while performance is going up in small increments the last few years, the graphics are getting worse in big leaps.
I'm just not hip. Hate 90% of the graphics shown.
Another reason to buy a race ski. :

Thise Extrem skis are sweet, just what I am looking for.

It's interesting how graphic designers, who portray themselves as so "creative," all hop on the same bandwagon and imitate each other.

I suspect that its ubiquity is finally a sign that the "graphics that are bigger than the skis" look -- or, in its highest form, the "graphics that run across both skis and beyond" thing -- is finally about played out.
Dynastar really pulled off the "wood" graphics quite well in the 09 models -- they look fabulous to me. On the other hand, the wood graphics on the Fischer Wateas look very bland.

So when will these 2009 skis be available to the public?
You'll probably be able to order 09 skis in late Feb / early March, but might not be able to take delivery until later in the year.

Katana gone Dogen ?
those are some damm ugly skis. except for the dynstar legends.
and what's with all these reverse camber skis. the only way it works good is to have them reverse sidecut as well. other wise you just have really wide ski that can't ride hard pack. reverse sidecut knocks the swing weight down as well. makes no sense shane mcConkey got it right the first time

McConkey got it right the first time... for pivoting.

many pow skiers, believe it or not, do actually like traditional sidecuts in soft snow. They just like them nearly straight. They arc soft snow vs slide it.

Heeps of world-class BM skiers have ebay'ed their reverse/reverse skis because they don't arc like traditionals do.

Look at the IFSA BM World Tour. Only a few of those guys are on reverse sidecut skis. Those skis are great for billy-goat terrain, etc, but you'll never see a BM skier like Nobis or Harrison on a reverse-cut.

Neither is better. They just serve different riding styles. One of which you don't adhere to... which is fine.

09 Harts.
Thank god my 08 ledges look nicer then the 09s or i wudda been pissed i didnt wait lol
post #17 of 46
Wow, what happened to plain old carving ski's? I didn't really see any skinny ski's for us in the midwest, nor did I see any graphics that really appealed to me. The designs are all so similar to one another, not to mention a little to off the hook for my taste!
I agree the Dynastar Legends have the best look. I may be partial to them though since I ski them now. Most of the rest look like someone threw up in technicolor.

Designs are like everything else once a type gets established everyone jumps on that bandwagon and copies it.

The Extreme Sweet O looks great!
Those are all ugly, 'cept for the Harts. Thanks, Phil!
I am kind of digging the graphics on the pair of K2's....I think they are the Extremes. I like the throw back to the graphics from the early 90's.
Mantras still produced in Germany?
anyone had a go on the new Xplorers or Outlaws yet?

would be good to hear your opinions on them.

I demoed the xPlorer. Unfortunately it was a hardpack day, not a powder day so I can't speak to it's virtues on the soft stuff. Excellent edge grip on the firm, really turny, easy/forgiving, nice ski. And for the record, I've never been much of a K2 fan. (absolutely hated the crossfire, for instance).

As for the ski pictures - pure 100% unadulterated suck. Most of them remind me of someone who gets a bad tattoo, and then gets another tattoo to cover up the first one, but since it's bad too, they get another one, and then another one etc etc. Eventually they're covered with an amorphous mess of squiggly lines that looks like a dog vomited on them.

Someone needs to tell these "artists" that less is more. Everything's too busy.

ugly skis

I am getting sick of the busy, grafitti inspired, snowboard like graphics on skis. Skis are instruments of expression and should look classy and understated, and should look as good for years to come. These busy skis might be trendy now, but will look as cool as acid wash jeans in a couple years. People may very well hang some of those beautiful burgundy rossi stratas over their mantles but can you picture a pair of seth pistols. Also, maybe I am being an old fart, but bases should be black. It is easy to see where you have waxed and p-tex looks ok. Nobody sees the base when you ski anyway. Any comments:

Agree 100%

They all (except the harts) look like they hit every branch falling out of the ugly tree.
The volkls look like they have paper mache topsheets. Horrible.

Thanks guys...But we have made some changes...the "competition" series (Javelin SL, GS and F17) will be staying, the Fuelie series and Phoenix have been redesigned. I will be posting pictures soon. :

I Find the race (or race like) skis that have every specification for dimension, sidecut, flex, construction, edge material, radius and possible resale value loudly diplayed all over the topsheet pretty cheesy as well.

first you have to SEE the SKIS not the PICS

my 2009 katanas are nice: agree the 2008 had more stylish design but the 09 are still beatifull

my 2009 grizzly is by far the best looking ski among the new line of volkl: I like the dark stylish graphic

my tecnica dragon is nothing special, just continuation of icons but the lateral stiffness is incredible: setting edges never was better andd more accurate

still waiting for 2009 wall, racetigers and gotamas
