So this month I eat my words...TWICE!! I bought two sets of skis with hostage plates:

Head i.XRC 1200
Elan Magfire 14 Magma

We'll see if they'll change my mind. Atomic didn't impress me in the least, so here we go again!!

I tried to get a Free spice last year but they were hard to come by around here. Ended up with the Blizzard Eos in that class of ski and fell in love with it.
I am curious to hear what the Free Spice and the MO' will offer that will steal my heart away from the Goddess of Dawn.

BTW, the Graphix on the Free spice for last year were ugly. Hope they changed that.

The new Freespice is a much prettier ski this year compared to last.

Some of the ski "systems" are beginning to offer options.
Take a look at the Systems that allow the Duke to be mounted.

You will notice that the 09 race skis picured have the Fusion binding. Elan are still in discussiosn with FIS regaring the Race stock skis with plates!

We get the skis 6 months before Nth Hemisphere so in March will have the info,... I doubt waveflex will make FIS specs in 08/09

With those sidecuts, they're not trying to meet FIS specs are they? Will Elan still make FIS race skis?
They are still making FIS compliant race skis just not with Waveflex. The 09 race skis will be similar to the 08 skis with Tyrolia race plate

I was checking out that bhski.com site at next years mag 10s

under the features it doesnt specify the sidewall construction anyone know if this is changing from the 07/08's AST sidewall?

Hope not - that's a BIG part of the reason I'm switching over to Elan.

I much prefer the '08 magfires visually.
The '09 seem like a step back.

Is there any point in getting MagFires for the east coast / mid atlantic? I was eyeing an old mag 6 and ended up with the intro level flows because I figured it wouldn't matter here. I wonder how the mags handle ice and hardpacks.

Just bought a pair of 2008 Magfire 10s...the shop saw a blemish on the top sheet so they are offering to swap the 2008s for 2009s. Based on what I could see online so far, the 2009 skis have slightly different dimensions, though...

There is no Magfire 10 for 2009. There is new Mag 10, but that is lower level ski. Replacement for Magfire 10 is called Magfire 78 Ti (123-78-105).

I hear they fixed the mount points on the 888 and 999.

Thanks for the info...I'll make sure I mention that to the shop when I take the skis back. Sure hope I can work something out...

NO QUESTION here...get the 2009's!!! Speedwave, baby!! They add 3mm to the waist, but I doubt you'll notice much. Don't get me wrong - the Mag 10 is a great ski (I have them), but if I had the chance you're getting, game over!!

Agree...my only concern is that they initially said that they would offer the 2009 Mag 10s in pace of the 2008 Magfire 10s, which seemed to be fine since I was told that the only differences were in the topsheet color/graphics and the bindings (which would not be returned since the current bindings are better).

If that is still the offer from the shop then I have a problem...

I have the "defective" Magfire 10s now and will be trying them out this weekend. Didn't have the chance to demo them before my purchase but I read a lot of good things and the shop had them at a really good price.

If it's cosmetic in nature ONLY, dont' worry about it. Ask for some money back or a free tune & wax or two. You've got great skis in the Mag 10 right now.

Does anyone know if the Speedwaves are going to be imported to the US in '09? Dawgcatcher indicated that they would not, but if the Mags are getting wider, we need something for the East Coast.
As I said, in 2009 there are Magfire models and there are Mag models. Mag models are updated Flow's from 2008. Mag 10 is not successor of Magfire 10. That's Magfire 78 Ti.

No, the Speedwaves are not being imported as I understand it. You'll have to buy the GS & GSX.

Buy my Speedwaves! They're in the classifieds right now, and have less than a full day on them.

We've got it - thanks!

I'll still call what I have Mags...

I'd love to, if they were 6cm BELOW rather than ABOVE my head

Nice Elan quiver you got, BTW.

I see you have the mag8 and 10 which I'm thinking of since I can't get any Speedwaves. How do you like them? I was initially planning to buy the Mag 8, then decided to go with the Mag 10 since I already have the Flow 6.2, the Mag 8 doesn't seem like that much of a step up.

It kills me that nobody's importing the Speedwaves next year. Any idea if it will be imported to Canada? Maybe I can bring one across the border from Toronto or Montreal? It kills me that everyone's going wider and wider. I ski in Southern PA most of the time, where it's mostly manmade ice and the only powder anywhere is gunpowder.

Thanks! Actually, they are Magfire 10's & 14's (just a bad flash pic). I like all of them. Each one is different - the Mag10 is a good all-arounder, pretty turny, the Mag 14 is a bomber crud-buster with no speed limit, and the Speedwave is a turny carver for HARDpack, with nearly the same radius as the Mag 10. The Mag 10 is better the the SW12 when the snow is softer - like springtime conditions.

FWIW, I'm 6', 185#, and I'm thinking SW14 instead as I can overpower them if I REALLY try.
