Yep. Woke up to pouring rain here this morning as well. There's a river going down the road in front of my place right now.

Bad here too. I really don't care if it is 80 and sunny here or even below Vermont...When it mess with the snow up there, thats when I get pissed.

Well take solice. The Old times used to day, if you hear thunder in the winter you'll get snow within a week. I've never seen it fail.

I checked the Wa ski report this morning. One trail and one lift open, the magic carpet and learning area; that's it. The rest of the lifts were on delayed opening do to lightning strikes. I've seen "wind hold" before but not "lightning hold".

I hate to always sound like a travel poster for Utah, But air fares are cheap now and there's nobody here. Here's a pic of shoveling the driveway...

thunder in winter>snow

That does seem to be in our forecast, but not much down here in semi-tropical Philadelphia. We had our downpour around 2 or 3 am, I think, and now it is just dark, foggy and misty... inspiring weather for suicide. We may get some snow by Monday, though.

Now where Lonnie hangs out in Alta , thunder and snow seem to be a fairly frequent combination. I was out there the week before Christmas and as we tried to drive down the canyon road in a graupel blizzard, there was a flash of lightning and a loud thunderclap. That was the start of the three week storm cycle that just now seems to be coming to a close after what must have been about 10 of 15 feet of snow!

We 've been getting it in the white form. 80cm in the last 7 days, the settled mid mountain base is now 256cm. The best part about it is there's no one here, fresh deep tracks to be had all day long. Yes life is good in Fernie!

Sorry about you guys getting all the rain

Last night after volleyball, I went to ruby tuesdays with friends, and we sat by the window, watching the coolest lightening show in the snow storm that dumped 6 inches on us.
Lightening in a snow storm is truly awesome!!!

The PNWet started out dismal but this last week or 2 has been more than making up. 134" base right now. Sorry about your luck guys.

Gee- hope I'm not being too insensitive. My homie in Westchester is on suicide watch. But it's been a good winter out East so far, and it ain't over yet. The Cottonwoods and everything else out here is just buried though, and a round trip ticket from NYC is going for around $310 now, from L.A. $150.

I skied in a snow/lightning storm once...a neat experience. Flakes were the size of ping pong balls.

Unless you're on the lift:

It's almost snowing here.:

We're soggy rainy here in SW Pa. Good news is it looks like starting Sat. the weather turns progressively colder and by next weekend and beyond really cold so hopefully the balance of Jan. presents some decent conditions locally, and we can have the cold weather stick around all through Feb if that's not asking for too much. I'd like to throw in March as well, but that just seems to much to ask for anymore.

The flakes here were huge and held a lot of moisture.
Good to rebuild the base we lost.

23" last night on a 168" base. I'm off the mountain today, but we've got another one coming in tonight, with a forecast of 10" to 14" by tomorrow.

I <heart> la nina.

PS - I do recall one thunder and lightning storm up in Alaska that dropped 36" in under 6 hours, so take heart.
