Making a helmet meet or exceed certain standards may in many cases compromise its intended deformation functions, make it too heavy or rigid and thus unusable by racers at the elite level.
Judging by the rapid growth and popularity POC has achieved, the amazing roster of athletes using the product, loyalty of their users and the array of design and safety awards won by the brand I would think they are more than sincere in their quest for safety.
Various aramid and 100% carbon shells the rare exception. I agree that the POC Scotty M wore should not have come off and POC has already addressed that issue. No one is perfect and we all learn and gain knowledge from experience.
I agree that the Cavalier was a piece of crap- I had a 1975 Chevy Monza which was also a piece of crap. I also don't recall either models marketing machines stating they were superior or the safest either. To expect a Cavalier to have the same safety or performance capabilities of a BMW or Mercedes would be naive and I am sure EpicSki readers are not so naive either.
FIS Snowsports shall be specifically designed and
manufactured for the respective discipline and shall bear a CE mark and
conform to recognized and appropriate standards such as CEE 1077 or
US 2040, ASTM F2040, SNELL S98 or RS 98, etc.
Just a weakly worded paragraph about meeting some sort of standard, with a list of not so similar standards that might be applicable.
Ask any coach or national team member if you don't believe us that is the "credible evidence" you seem to feel is lacking.

Wow. This is VERY important to you. You have me convinced.... YOU definitely shouldn't buy a POC helmet.
Richie, why don't you start a new thread explaining to everyone why they should wear the "Brain Pad" mouthguard, or the Leatt-brace neck protector....
HEY! How about we all ski with an F1 Hans device!!
there are people who still ski with no helmet and on early 80's gear, and smoke, etc.
