Jay Peak has, in the past, hosted a competition that they called the "Glade and Chute Bash," basically a freeskiing or extreme comp. (see freeskiers.org for an explanation of what these competitions entail...) Last season thanks to local ripper and tour vet John Witherspoon (bikingforabetterworld.org) they got the comp sponsored by the IFSA with a pre-qualification for the world tour going to the winner, and I believe that that is the story again this year. I skied in last years and tied for fifth, (respectable for me, I stayed on my feet and skied the line I wanted so I was happy!) and I am looking forward to doing it again this year. What I'm wondering is are there any similar events going on east of the Mississippi that are open to the public? I really enjoy this type of skiing and feel like the competitive atmosphere helped me step up my game, I'd love to do more of them but can't afford (or probably qualify) to go to any of the real ones out west. Anyone know of anything like this?
