Conditions in Southern VT this coming weekend

Several of us were planning to go to southern VT for a guys weekend. With the warm weather and rain (forcasted) how much damage will be done? I know magic is in poor condition already.....what about Stratton, Bromley, Mt Snow, etc...

Any thoughts or suggestions, or should we bring more beer?

Bring more beer. If the forecast holds true, should be hard pack this weekend. I'll be at Stratton. At this point, if we're lucky some sun will warm the surface a bit by mid-day but I'm really not optimistic. Sucks cuz last week after the two snowstorms, conditions were fantastic.

Still beats working. Just keep the edges up high.

There's been a lot of melting, so there are plenty of bare spots. Really a shame, given the great start we had for the season. It's supposed to get colder, with maybe even a bit of snow. Don't know how much recovery that'll bring by the weekend, though. What there is will probably be icy.

Bring beer, just in case.

With the tremendous amount of early season natural, the areas didn't blow as much as they usually do, Since the natural melts faster, that is why the bare spots are showing. As soon as it gets cold enough...I am sure the guns will be a blazing. Lets hope this was THE thaw of January.

things are melting quickly. I was at Wawa last night and rivers are flowing off the hill with growing brown spots. We need cold first then snow - and SOON!

Any hope for skiing this weekend in the northeast?

I was going to go to Hunter in my new boots :...but I will hold out .

It looks a little grim, but I've decided to go to Stowe anyway and hope for the best. I'm taking a day bus up and back -- the drive is getting to be a struggle for me, so the convenience is too much to pass up.

Actually, I don't mind ice (or even icy bumps) but Stowe seems to be pretty conservative about opening trails with poor conditions. If worse comes to worst, I'll take my new (used) slalom skis and work on form.

There's only two types of conditions: "good" and "good for you". This weekend is sure to have lots of the "good for you" variety. I'm going to head up (somewhere, not sure where yet) and make the best of it. Drag out my slalom skis with the bear-trap edge hold and go to work.

I skied Killington today (actually every day this week). The groomers did an epic job overnight and the guns were blazing all day in several areas. Trails that were groomed were actually amazingly good in the morning, but of course got skied off by mid afternoon. Anything not groomed was closed (for good reason). Forecast for tomorrow is for a "wintery mix". Let's hope is mostly frozen. Snow is in the forecast for Sunday/Monday.

There's hope though ... Monday could be another blockbuster storm ... or at least a good amount of snow for the region.

I'm planning a Tuesday or Wednesday midweek trip ... depends on snow exactly where.

Decent conditions on the groomers at Stowe today. Snow was being made up high. I didn't get to ski Mansfield, only Spruce.

Good to hear the more northern mts are cold enough to still make snow. I plan to be at Okemo for pres day wknd.

Was nasty up there today. Anyone else go ice skating today?

Friday was sleet and freezing rain at Killington. Awful. Snowmaking has resumed and 6-8 inches predicted for Monday so things should improve.

Shoulda been there tomorrow.

Friday and Sat in VT

Went up to Newfane late Thursday night to ski Friday and Saturday. Friday was warm and rained all day, so it turned into a beer fest. Once we all sobered up we went to Manchester to but some stuff and eat - The perfect wife - good bar food upstairs and decent band playing.

Saturday we went ice skating at Stratton - Bromley was voted out by the rest of the group. It was all ice and where-ever the solid ice was broken up it was like the ice found in margaritas - not even the granular ice. Skiing was "very sporty" at best.

On a sad note - late am a young girl - looked to be about 13 or 14, went off a trail into woods and was knocked out. She was airlifted out to Albany (I think). She was still unconcious when they airlifted her out. It was a very sad and scary sight to see.
