Meeting Mr Nobody

Hey, we Euro-types can do ski meet-ups too. Case in point: Nobody and I met up over the Christmas break at my home hill, SkiareaValchiavenna (AKA Madesimo). Mr Nobody is, as expected, a warm, friendly guy (he even bought me and my four year-old lunch) and a stylish skier, despite being on a pair of 195 Volkl race boards. We didn't get to do any gnarly offpiste together, mostly due to my own ridiculous, frenetic schedule (racing home to relieve babysitter for 6 month-old, taking the bigger one to ski school, hopping from shop to shop to find the perfect deal on used skis), but I sincerely hope to see Nobody up at my home hill again, least of all to have dinner at our place, once we're done gutting the kitchen (another little time-killer over the holidays). Auguri Matteo, a presto.

Hello Prickly!
Glad to hear from you!
How's to be back in the big town?
I heard from my other friend that on Saturday he had to drive home w/ snowchains mounted, from Made till Chiavenna! Was that snowed in after we left?
Ciao!!!

It snowed all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sunday morning, in particular, was nice and deep. But of course they never opened the tram (still haven't, I think). The woods were nice all weekend, though.

Oh! so they kept the Canalone off all that time...a pity! But then. with the Tram not operating, even the Valle was not accessible, double pity.
It would be nice to have "proper" patrol (correct me Prickly if I'm wrong but, Patrol and Lifty are the one and the same here, and they limit their action to runs, not to "inbound" or "outbound" or better, "inbound" here means "runs". Anything else is "outbound" even 5 feet out of a run) doing avy-control...but I guess that's still to come on our side. And beside, little sense doing it while it still snows...That's the reason Canalone was classified as an off-piste anyway. Right?

The tunnel project may have been started by then.

Really?
I should be
:
But after a few thoughts, I realize that that will involve more people skiing the Valle, so less fresh pow and off piste available to
the few who were going there for that rerason, and possibly more groomed runs, rock blasting to flatten out sections etc...
I would be happy if they were to leave the Valle as a kind of "back bowl"...That will definitely make me

Another 70 cm or so forecast for Friday/Saturday. Good thing I bought those hard snow/rock skis...
