SLC Locals--Need Hotel Info Please?

My sister is traveling to SLC in March for business and a lot of the hotels that have been recommended for conference attenders are a little on the pricey side. She's found the Best Western Garden Inn within walking distance that's easier on the budget but since she's never been to SLC wasnit sure if it was in a safe neighborhood, etc.

Any info about the hotel, area, or other recommendations that I can pass her way would be appreciated. Many thanks!

You're probably not getting a response because this is one of the most asked questions and there should be countless information available via the search function.

I was just there in December and we stayed at the La Quinta in Midvale which was a fantastic deal. However it wasn't terribly close to downtown so I don't know if that will help or not.

Perhaps you could be more specific in your thread title and ask for downtown hotels instead. I would think you would get more responses because I don't think that is discussed as often.

I live close to downtown and anything towards the park that is located downtown can get interesting. That being said this is not a crime laden city. I think if you are not going to stay at a resort then staying downtown is the way to go for two reasons. If you fly in and it starts snowing you are going to be able to get to your hotel and secondly there are quite a few places to eat, drink, and be merry within walking distance. It is safe especially if you stay out of the park and even then you are probably okay.

That's right across the street from the Little America. It's a fine area. A few homeless folks and panhandlers around, but they are essentially harmless. That being said, I don't really know much about the downtown hotels as I never stay there.

Where's her conference?

Bingo and Lonnie, thanks for the help and good words. I've been to SLC a couple of times on business but don't remember much because I never got to see anything other than meeting rooms and airports-ugh! I'm not sure where this conference will be, she just said the BWGI was 5 blocks away. Anyway, I'm sure she will appreciate this info. My thanks!

That's two blocks from a trax station, and I'm fairly sure that's in the free fare zone. I'm guessing that her confrence is at the "Salt Place" and there's trax station 1 block from there. That might not be any faster than walking tho.

Shoot me a pm or e-mail and I'll get you my cell#. Have her give me a call if she has any other questions. I can do a drive by recon if she'd like....

I stayed at the BW Garden Inn last July or Aug for 4 nights. Its not the cleanest or newest hotel but I think the area is safe enough. The contin breakfast wasnt bad either. An easy walk to Port O Call.

Dowtown SLC is very safe, some good eats, good pubs..er clubs, and great public transportation. She will be fine.

Tell her to go to the Vienna Bistro.

SLC Hotel Info

That Best Western is at 154 West 600 South which is still in a good area. The further west you go the iffier the neighborhoods get. East and North of that location has more activity at all times of day but prices will probably go up. Where is her conference being held?
