getting from DIA to Summit county

post #1 of 4

This came up recently in another thread- the OP was wondering how to get to Summit county via some cheaper method than Colorado Mountain Express ($75/person one way... yow!). I did some research and I think I've nailed down the details. Posting here because I suspect this might be a FAQ...

So basically, you take route AF from DIA at 4:45pm/4:50pm (terminal west/terminal east). Get off at 19th and Arapahoe at 5:40pm and hotfoot it to the bus station at 1055 19th.

Hop on the Greyhound to Frisco departing at 6:10pm. Arrive at the Frisco tranportation center at 7:45pm.

Park it for the night at the Alpine Inn at Frisco, or hop on the hourly Summit Stage for your final destination (see the schedule brochure on their web site).

So, from what I can tell the one-way costs for this are:
RTD: $10.50 Single Day Pass- Regional
Greyhound: $23 (standard) or $18 (non-refundable)
Summit Stage: $free

So seems like you can get from DIA to Summit for as little as $28.50.

I've never actually tried this (as I live here), so someone may wish to error check my information.

Should work.

Keep in mind that CME's "Point-to-Point" service is "only" $45. From DIA to the Frisco Transportation Center.

If you're schlepping gear, the $18.75 additional to have CME wheel your gear out from the DIA terminal, load it in the van, and have one ride up to Frisco may be worth it compared to this multi-hop city-bus-to-greyhound connection. Then take the Stage to where you're going in Summit County.

Updated the RTD price- turns out you need to buy the slightly more expensive "regional" pass.

@MarkXS
I hear what you are saying about gear and not changing vehicles. I personally would pay the extra $ to avoid the hassle of changing buses. On the other hand, the RTD buses are really nice- they put you on the nice, roomy "cruise liner" (ala Greyhound style) buses, not the run-of-the-mill metro ones.

Greyhound roundtrip is $26. The CME to Frisco is $45 one way. Thats the difference. So its really $47 VS $90.

And if there is 4 of you in the group just rent the cab to the bus station. Someone around here said that would be about $50 buy after splitting it five ways it would still be cost effective. I guess if someone has their own skis they would need to accomodate that.
