Fischer RX-8 Topsheet Delaminating

Wondering if anyone else has seen this problem or has a suggestion for solutions ...

This is my 3rd season on a pair of Fischer RX-8's. Noted (to my dismay) the other day that the clear plastic skin/topsheet has begun to delaminate about 6-9" from the tail of one of the skis. This is a cap construction ski and the outer skin seems more cosmetic than structural. No change observed in the performance of the ski.

Did a forum search and turned up a couple of folks a few years back complaining about "delaminating" Fischers, but they certainly seemed the exception rather than the rule.

I expect that I'm well outside my "warrantee" period, but curious if any Fischer reps out there might offer some suggestions. I'm thinking a bit of epoxy to glue the sheet back down and fuggedaboutit unless more stuff starts popping loose.

Was hoping to add a mid-fat to the quiver this season, so would prefer not to have to replace my favorite frontside ride unless I absolutely have to.

Same thing is happening with mine. I've been slipping in epoxy with a toothpick. Are they 2006 like these? They only used this type of topsheet for one year and i'm guessing this is why. Also shows every scratch and is easily damaged. Mine look like 10 year old demos, but they ski great.

Yeah, I have heard that particular year has had problems with the topsheet delaminating on all the RX models (by pure accident, my RX skis were/are from before or after that year). It is mainly cosmetic, but would annoy the heck out of me.

If you can squirt some flexible epoxy in there and then clamp/tape everything down to let it cure, it should stave off the problem and be almost invisible afterwards.

I have a pair of the 05/06 RX8's and probably have about 60 days on them. I haven't noticed the clear skin delamination noted. But I will keep my eyes open for it. I LOVE these skis on eastern hardpack!

Yep ... same ski, same problem. Not too fussy about the scratches, but having my topsheet flapping in the breeze is a bit bothersome. As long as it doesn't indicate an impending structural problem with the ski, I'm happy to go the epoxy route ... cause I sure do love the skis.

Like This?

Although it's probably cosmetic and the Warranty period seems to expired on your skis, You may consider taking them to the dealer you bought them from and see whether a solution might arrived at since it seems to have been a problem with certain Fischer RX skis awhile back.

I am on my 3rd pair of RX-8s due to topsheet delamination, last 2 versions before 2007/2008 did it. I think Fischer should switch to solid topsheet like K2, Salomon, etc. This is not a RARE occurance for these skis. Fischer has been good about replacing them which says something, and I love these skis. Hopefully this pair will last, otherwise I may switch to different brand.

Update on delamination woes

Quick update on my delamination problem with the RX-8's ...

My wife had bought these skis online as a b'day gift for me 3 years back. After searching in vain for the receipt (you know how those things disappear ) and not wanting to go back through credit card records, etc. I just took the skis in to my local shop and asked if there was anything they thought I could do.

Well props to my local shop (Zimmerman's in Nashua/Westford), who quite happily contacted Fischer on my behalf. Props also to Fischer who have agreed to replace the skis .

They're replacing them with the Race SC, which near as anyone can tell is exactly the same ski with a different top sheet. (I'm sure they're want to keep the RX-8's for paying customers, but that's quite all right with me)

So while I'll miss the blaze orange RX-8's, it'll be nice to know my skis will last

This is very useful. I've got the same problem with my RX8..2006 model. Severe delamination on one ski--partial on the other.
I'll contact Fischer to see if they can do something about it..
Many thanks.

Heres a fine example of how useful this forum can be.
I contacted the people at Fischer's office in Austria. Explained that I bought a pair of RX8's in Italy in early 2006 and that now having a pretty serious delaminating of the Topsheet.
They were very understanding and helpful---knew right away what I was talking about---said there was definitely this problem with some of the RX8's 2005/06.
So they're going to change them for new skis. I've been in contact with Fischer in Milan who has been in contact with the store where I bought them. I took the skis in yesterday and they figure I'll have the new set in about 10 days.
Was very impressed with the people at Fischer.
Also very happy that I spotted this thread on the forum!
Thanks

Agree, very nice thread! Nobody knew they would take back skis that were out of warranty period..

I'll remember this if my Fischer skis are going to break..
