I have skied about a zillion years, learned in my backyard on beartrap bindings and then on a real ski hill with wooden skis with screw on edges. No I am not 60 nor even 50. I am a CSIA Level III instructor level I coach and teach advanced skiers and instructors in our area.
Hope this answers the questions. I am definitely in the "Heavier skier" category.
My favourite runs all have moguls on them. My all time favourite run is called "Piste Perdue" in Tignes, France. Any who have skied it know why.
Another favourite is Outer Limits at Killington. Makes a great warm up run and after two or three trips down I am just about done for the day. Recently skied Panorama "Titan Bowl". That year I used Head Worldcup iSL 160cm skis. They worked fine for me.
an interesting note. Last season when we demoed the Head SS Magnum a friend who is both taller and much heavier than me tried the Magnum in a 170 length. Was spring skiing in the afternoon. I actually had to walk over to the lift line and step on the heel bindings to get them back. He managed to somehow buy a pair that week despite the ski not being availalable until this season. Being tall and strong and probably 300 lbs he bought 177cm skis. This year he tried them maybe 8 days and hates them. They are for sale. Go figure
