Here's an interesting aside to this story. Reading the TGR coverage, which is extensive, it's amazing to see that the boy was buried for a half hour, recovered not breathing, given CPR and is now expected to recover fully. Apparently, if the body temperature is cold enough before your heart stops, then your brain stops consuming energy. Consuming energy without a resource is what kills the brain- In cases like this, or drowning in cold water, it shuts down. Young kids have survived as long as forty five minutes submerged in cold water. Older people don't do so well. This from a Dr. friend who did a paper on it as a resident.
Anyway, lucky it was snow and ice he was buried in, and I hope like crazy that he's really o.k.
