Oh, yeah. He's my hero. I could go on and on about what an incredible skier he was (and is). He's one of my favorite people in the world. Jackson Hole Archives Photo
This is from Wikipedia:Josef ("Pepi") Stiegler
(born April 20
) was a member of the Austrian
national alpine ski
team during the 1960s and one of the world's premier racers. He is the father of United States alpine skier Resi Stiegler
At the 1960 Winter Olympics
of Squaw Valley
, Josef Stiegler won a silver medal in Giant Slalom
. At the 1964 Winter Olympics
, he took the bronze medal in Giant Slalom and the gold medal in Slalom
. Stiegler later made appearances at many ski events in the United States, wrote articles for ski magazines, eventually ending up at Jackson Hole
where he reigned for many years as ski school director.
I'll try to dig out some of my own photos of backcountry skiing with Pepi the last few winters.
