I'd also say, odd's are it won't be the Rep who you are dealing with at an on hill demo, it will be someone he hires to turn screws for him at demos. This guy won't sell you skis.
The demo may be sponsored by a ski shop, or group of shops, the rep is there to support theses shops, selling skis at a discount is sort of like him walking up to the shop owner and giving him a kick to the groin. Since the shop owner pays his commission, a smart rep might not want to do that.
If it is the actual Nordica Rep, he MIGHT sell a ski this early in the season, maybe. I'd say think 35% off retail. Pull him aside, don't go waving cash around with a group of people around him.
I fully agree with these comments!
Number one: Its too early in the season, the Rep has too many future events planned to part with his demo skis (these are his selling tools). If it were a week before they start to demo the 2009 models, yes maybe.
Number two: Dealers are present at these events, its not in the Reps best interest to undercut his dealers and steal a sale. This is very bad business and probably won't get an order next year!
Number three: Do you really want to own a pair of beat up ski's with crappy demo bindings for the sake of saving a few bucks?
Support you local ski shop, its bad enough they have to compete with the big box stores, they shouldn't have to compete with their Reps as well!
