Okay, Philth . . . . . exactly what you said!!! Also add that I hope we don't have to pay for any idiots health care while spending the rest of his days as a vegetable who chose not to wear a seat belt.
BUT, if you'd have read the post in it's entirety you'd have known that Matt was being sarcastic in his statement concerning safety equipment, and while on one hand I do see his point I still have to go with the other. That being said, here goes the blather!!!
I'm sick and tired of "stupidity" legislation. The largest problem we will face in the US in the next decade (and are already having to face now) is the burdon of excessive laws. Our government is not here to protect us from ourselves, each other or our own stupidity. I'm so tired of hearing pathetic whimpering americians cry to the government becauce they're not responsible for themselves. Government is here to build roads and fight wars, nothing more nothing less. My gosh people, do you realize that the constitution only provided for three felonies??? Any other crime or law is supposed to be a state thing. Now it's to the point to where you can be charged with a felony for EVERY crime. Do any of the small pathetic minds who actually support this kind of government know where this will eventually lead?? Let me clue you a little bit. Once convicted of a felony, you lose several "inalienable" rights. Some of these include the right to bear arms, the freedom of travel, etc. etc. HERE'S THE KICKER, . . . you also lose your voice in government. That's right, you lose your right to vote!!
It's gets a little too scary when government gets so involved at the state's level, or in the private sector. Likewise I don't need someone else telling me what I have to do in order to enjoy a sport. Next thing you know some idiot will want the government to outlaw death. Twill probably be the IRS as they have personal interests in keeping everyone taxable for as long as possible!! Hey, I've got a great one. Let's make it a felony for not wearing ANY personal safety equipment. The next step after that is to put walls up around the US in order to keep people in. Mr. Kruschev said: "we will bury you". I wonder if he meant Russia, or just communism in general.
Ones personal safety should always be a choice. Matt, if you think I'm an idiot for not wearing a brain bucket then I respect your right to think that. However my right to CHOOSE not to wear it needs to be respected too. On that note however I also feel any injuries that I incur because of this decision should be financially visited on no one but myself.
Sorry for the soap boxing here, it's just a real sore spot right now as I realize that half of my income (1040 folks. . 1040 easy!!, that means half of 2080. Anybody figure out the sarcasm hear??) goes to a fat, bloated government that can't even get out of it's own way all in order to legislate the most personal choices of my private life right down to what I can do in the bedroom with my wife. Give me the other half of my money (or just 60% of it) and trust me, I can do a much better job than some midlevel government flunky with a bad comb over!!
