Ski Albums / Ski Music

Periodically there have been threads about ski music on this forum. I, like many others, grew up listening to Bob Gibson (or the Chad Mitchell Trio) singing Super Skier and other songs and I recent bought his SKI SONGS album on eBay. While I was there I looked for other albums about skiing. I now have a small collection of albums, CDs, and digital downloads.

You can see my list at:

I would appreciate knowing about others. There must be more.

I like your list buddy.
I used to always imagine skiing to Christopher Cross's "It's Alright Think We're Gonna Make It."

MWSkier, that is a collection of some awesome-looking stuff. Never heard of any of it, but I'll check it out.

Ski music for me is always broken down by type of skiing:

1) BC/AT: almost always some old Dead show (you can tell who my BC pards are) or Dylan or Guy Clark or Johnny Cash

2) XC: this will seem weird, but any kind of Euro-electronica trance/goa mix. It's because I do a lot of driving for junior racers who associate XC skiing with partying in Europe...(hmmm....what are they doing when we send 'em to train on the Dachstein...) Lately, it's been Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Judge Jules, etc.

3) alpine: if it's morning freshies, then some old Peter Tosh; if it's just cruisin', then anything from Soundgarden (or anything from college) to Franz Ferdinand to The Prototypes to British Sea Power to....whatever; but if it's poachin' then Rollins Band, Bad Religion, Buzzcocks, etc., although I should probably start rockin' the Tony Bennet or Perry Como when we...emm...venture south of Big Sky

Close, but no cigar...

...here's what's going to be featured in my novel about what it was like to really ski in Colorado back in the 70s:

- Ski Trails, Jo Stafford

- Mr. Magic, Grover Washington

- Bare Trees, Fleetwood Mac

- Mars Hotel (name of the house we lived in in Breckenridge, Grateful Dead

- The Cars, The Cars

There's more, but I can't remember it all right now...

Ski bum music in JH. One album is called "gotta take some turns". Chanman plays the tram jam at JH and has a few skiing songs. Skibum music is his label.
