The RX-8 makes great short turns on edge, but I find that the RX-9 makes better short turns in cases where you aren't edging a full carve. Say, moguls, or short skid turns. The RX-8 just has too much sidecut in those situations, whereas the RX-9 is happy to oblige. I guess I would say the 8 is good for carving short turns and turning short turns into long turns, but the 9 is better overall for a wide range of turn styles. I actually find the 9 easier to ski, and that includes making short turns in tight spots.
