Straps to go around wide skis

I have looked all over Boise for straps to go on the tips and tails of my Mojo 90's when I'm not actually skiing on them (with rubber or some such piece that goes in between to protect the bases from rubbing together when you schlep them around) and all I can find are straps that fit great on the narrower skis (I have several pair of these straps already). This seems odd to me, since the shops' sales racks are all full of wide skis this year.

Anyway, any chance someone here can point me towards a source (Internet or such) that would have some decent quality straps wide enough to fit on skis that are 125mm or 130 or the like?

Thank you,

Peter

Any suggestions for straps that'll work on wide skis?

thanks,

Try these:

http://www.slidewright.com/products.php?cat=110

I have one that I use on my Metrons (133mm at the tip). I know that I didn't put it all the way at the tip, but if I remember correctly, there was plenty more Velcro to work with.

E-mail Alpinord, that's his website, he'll probably give you a size range. I'd go check mine, but they're back at my parents in Maine.

If you can't find any wide enough straps, try some hockey shin guard straps. You should be able to pick them up and any sporting goods store or local rink.

What about a "ski tote" for wide skis?

krp8128,

Thank you for replying to my query.

The picture of ski straps on the website you listed (above) looks to me like they are the regular size ones I'm finding everywhere I look, but I can't quite tell for sure from the picture, so I have indeed eMailed to the website (as you suggested) to find out. That's a very good price, if they actually are ones which are designed for wider skis.

Visitor,

How far towards the tip are you looking to place these? Like I said, my tips are 133mm. I used one of these on the front of my skis, and they kept everything from rubbing together ( I was testing some Maplus wax for Alpinord-Good Stuff).

krp8128,

Where the skis touch together, if you place them base-to-base. So there'll be one strap just right where the shovels start (extending between the skis there so they don't rub against each other), and another strap down near the tails.

:-)

Tie water knots in old boot power straps to take up the length.

Maybe a daft question but goes the voile straps just around the skis and not between them? Sure looks that way.

That's what it looked like to me too when I went to the suggested webpage and poked around in the pictures of it there. I'm looking for ones that will not only go around the skis (any sort of rubberbandey thingie will do that), but will also go between them to protect against the abrasion that naturally occurs from normal lugging/bumping around of the skis both in and outside of their carry bag.

The ones that are already commercially available everywhere, including everywhere locally, work great for the skis that we all had before the most recent meteor shower of fatties. It's that same design (more or less), but long enough to accommodate the fat ones that I'm wondering where they all are (in a world that seems to be FULL of wide skis now with no one selling straps for them).

Phil is big on ski totes, it's a 70s thing.

I never had an issue with damage from ski bases rubbing together with just straps around both but if you need to you could use 4 Voile Straps, 2 around a single ski and then 2 to connect them.

Voilé straps work great for wide (or any) skis and a lot of other uses....I 've been using the 25 inchers with a thin foam pad between the skis. It's quick, easy and bomber. Let me know if you want pics...

a price of shock cord doubled over with an overhand not to make a loop, put the loop over 1 ski than loop both skis 2 times than the one you did not get first.
its ezer than it sounds you dont have to mess with Velcro sticking to its self, its cheep i mack mine out of broken bungee cords. and if you want you can loop lour poles and presto you have a handle
