Are thery blowing any snow on the hills in Collingwood yet?

If they have been, looks like it'll be melting again by mid-week.

I heard their hydro contract starts Nov. 22, so you may see some snowmaking after that date... assuming, of course, the temps go back down.

I e-mailed Blue. They have no scheduled start date, opting instead for "typically we open early to mid December."

Last season, they laid off 1300 folks due to lack of snow. Other resorts that began snowmaking early enough, did not have to do that.

Well it's southern Ontario - they open when fickle temps and snow permit. Pretty futile to predict. (I can recall it being any time from 4th week November to New Years.)

Blue's got a village to sustain and beds to sell - trust me, they open as soon as they can.

As for last year, yeah they opened and closed - as did virtually every other resort (MSLM in snowbelt area an exception). Let's hope for a better season this year.

Looking at the webcam, they're making snow. Hard to make out, but looks like they are on.

D3T0: MSLM in snowbelt area an exception

Yes they somehow managed to stay open last December. But we skied in some funky mix of snow, dirt, drizzle and rain. I hope this December has more "white" in it.

BigE is right about snow making however. The only reason MSLM stayed open is because they parked some man-made snow and used it through December.

Yes, first day of hydro contract I think. May be trying to start up, though temps by Sunday look pretty mild.

And good on them for that. But I'm not sure they or "other resorts" BigE refers to were making it any earlier than Bue. Maybe just better at inventorying it. Or a few early snow squalls helped. It's maddening how many of those miss Blue!

Blue's site confirmed they're making snow. They may even surprise us with a weekend opening.

MSLM announced a tentative opening on Nov 30.

yes, yes it does....

It's official. Blue's opening Friday.

Reminder - CHEAP lift tickets until Dec. 9 - $19!
We booked in for the weekend, really cheap condo rates at Interwest.

Anyone been to Blue since the storm last weekend? Thinking of heading up this weekend...

We were up last weekend - great conditions for opening day and not busy at all. Only smart alec was open, but they were blowing snow elsewhere. Since then, they've had more snow, nice powder yesterday that I missed. :

Most runs around Central are now open, you can probably expect a few more to open by the weekend. South end probably won't open til Dec. 14.
