MRG's single is overrated.
Agree on the overrated after 3PM runs - 3 or 4 around 1030 are my best

Overrated: short, overly shaped carving skis for Western skiing. I would rather make wider, longer skis carve the piste than try and make little SL racer skis work off-piste.

Overrated: VAIL!!!

Well, having taken that single for 35 years I was hoping we could have gotten at least a double. But we were outvoted.

Like the location of a particular set of keys to a certain club field

Look me up if you get back here.

$1400 skis.....when used $100 skis would likely work better for the person using them. But don't them that.

SKI SOCKS----I have seen more people dump more cash.....

ski socks are very important. I don't spend more than 10bucks a pair, but I am incredibly picky. I can't even find suitable socks in Japan.

Admit TomB's post was the best in thread so far. Funny

trail ratings: the idea of a standard scale is over-rated

some areas indicate a their toughest runs (though not objectively that tough) with a double black diamond,

while other areas with much tougher runs use a single black diamond to indicate highest difficulty.

could get a fella' in trouble if he compared one to the other.

underrated - Carving on Groomers. I like powder is much as the next guy, but ripping up some cord is right up there. Just because a trail is groomed doesn't mean it's homogenized and without character either, there is a thing called terrain. Either your mountain has it or it doesn't. Grooming doesn't make it disappear.

overrated - powder. Yeah, that's right. If you can't enjoy skiing all of the other conditions, you are missing out. Powder is great, but if you can't enjoy the other stuff youare gonna be disappointed a lot of the time.

Thank you, you speak my mind! Especially the X'mas vs. Easter part.

Although I can't say I enjoy slush, I'll substitute bumps instead.

And as for the "underrated" California skiing, I'm sure the Californians did it on purpose! : (I've lived in CA for some years, Californians really don't want any more non-CA's to come to crowd up their state further!)

Well, I for one, really prefer driving to the mountains. Sure it takes me 27 hours rather than four or whatever but I like the drive. I like the experience of traversing hundreds of miles of corn and cow fields, it makes it more of a journey. I like being 'on my way' for more than a day, the anticipation is delicious. I like driving my car. I like skipping the whole airport thing; the hassle of finding transportation there, lugging your gear to the gate, being suspected of terrorism, being stuck in a seat that's full of thousands of other peep's beer farts, deciding which five pair of skis to leave home. Yeah all that and airplanes make my ears hurt.

For a ski trip, airplanes are overrated, automobiles are underrated

Could be.... it's true I've never been much of a swimmer.

Seriously though, I don't fly all that much but I really do like flying for flying's sake. The acceleration and altitude gain on takeoff is such a rush and in a small plane just being up there is really cool. In a sail plane the silence and the absolute need to work with the elements is not far short of miraculous. But for a ski trip, at least the kind I do, I prefer to drive

Heh. You must have been suffering from spiritual dyslexia when you wrote that. The Great Spirit smiles warmly upon those who eschew the resorts and lifts. It is unpossible to overrate bc skiing - the voices in my head tell me this is so.

But in the overrated category - turns. "To turn is to admit defeat."

nope, unlike my current state, I was sober when I typed that.
