overrated - powder. Yeah, that's right. If you can't enjoy skiing all of the other conditions, you are missing out. Powder is great, but if you can't enjoy the other stuff you are gonna be disappointed a lot of the time.
Overrated: skiing at Christmas
Underrated: skiing at Easter
Overrated: "packed powder"
Overrated: some of Colorado (echoing an earlier post), as well as some of the Alps
Overrated: heliskiing (from a cost/benefit POV)
Underrated: catskiing (ditto)
Overrated: getting an early start, skiing til closing, all those mantras about maximizing the day
Underrated: understanding what is the best part of the day at that particular point of the season (maybe late-day in Spring, early in Winter, etc.) and skiing it hard
Overrated: open bowls
Underrated: tree skiing
... Backcountry skiing/hiking for turns...the good Lord invented the chair lift for a reason ...
Heh. You must have been suffering from spiritual dyslexia when you wrote that. The Great Spirit smiles warmly upon those who eschew the resorts and lifts. It is unpossible to overrate bc skiing - the voices in my head tell me this is so.
But in the overrated category - turns. "To turn is to admit defeat."
