Gear at Costco

Thread Starter
Another list member pointed this out in another thread, and I took advantage of it and wanted to point it out to others in it's own thread.
Costco has some Black Diamond soft shell jackets for $29. The original poster was from BC, but I went to Costco in NH and found the same jackets. They are comparable in weight to the LL Bean soft shell jacket that I have which was the top of the line soft shell at LL Bean. They are also substantially heavier than my Mountain Hardwear Syncro jacket.
I also picked up some Costco brand Merino wool socks (71% Merino wool) - 4 pairs for $10. They are too thick for ski boots but great as a winter sock. I've purchased these in the past and they hold up well. It's tough getting one pair of Smartwool socks at this price.
On my way out of Costco, I received a coupon book that starts in a few weeks and there is a coupon for the well known Head gloves with a final price of $11.99 if I remember properly.

The gloves are $10.99 with the coupon and it's good only for Friday through Sunday after Thanksgiving. Here in Boise they also one model of Bolle helmets with adjustable vents and removable ear flaps for around $48.

Costco was carrying skis two years back, they had, on the website, Atomic SX:11's and M:11's.

I picked up one of the black Diamond soft shells about a month ago at costco. Great jacket for the price, have already skied 3 days with it, will be perfect for spring days. However, It took quite a while to find a Medium, 90% were Small or XL/XXL, and they run large.

I picked up a black one about a month ago. I really like the wrist enclosures, and it's a great medium weight. I thought I was getting a great deal on an Arcteryx soft shell for a little under $100 at REI which I bought before I saw the Black Diamond shell. The Arcteryx hangs in the closet now since it's a little light for my needs.

Any body have an opinion of their "Louis Garneau" helmets?

I've found that cheap gear at the outlets is not bad. I have some micro fleece and poly layers that I've used a lot. I tend to find that the fit and the odor control isn't as good as on the major label stuff. Now that I've turned pro and don't really ski on my schedule anymore things like that bother me more than they used to. Pro Deals help with the expense but name gear is still more expensive. It's all about what you like and what works for you.

I picked the Black Diamond softshell in Costco today. I was bumming because I couldn't find one back at the time when this thread began. Lots of them on the shelf today. I'm guessing it's a new shipment. May be more in at a location near you too if you missed out earlier.

What are these gloves you speak of? There is no local costco, and costco.com appears not to have them.

They are Head ski gloves tagged as breathable and waterproof with Outlast. I've had very good luck with over the past few years. In another thread, some of the posters weren't impressed. Tough to beat the price though.

I got the Black Diamond women's soft shell today. Wish they had them in black, but function over form, so light blue it is. Sweet price, too: 17 bucks and some change.

I saw helmets there about a month ago and was thinking to take a look the next time I'd go, but they were gone.

On the website they have Smith Anthem goggles, and I was surprised to see that they're selling lift ticket packs to a few places, and a ski and stay package at Whistler.
