Hey guys,

for one of my Kinesiology classes (KNEP1313, history and perspective in P-A) I have this semester project to give in, its about alpine ski racing. I was just wondering if you guys had some internet or paper resources that I could use to grab information. I have to describe the evolution of alpine ski racing from the origins to the modern days.

Right now I know about:

Skiracing.com
Skiworldcup.com
fis-ski.com

and wikipedia of course :P but the info in usually inaccurate for this type of paper, and the teacher does not accept wiki.

Anyways thanks for your help in advance and wish you a winterful of snow

Thanks! Il be looking into that.

I always find its difficult to find reliable sources as far as the older racing days are concerned. Even for last years world cups and stuff :x

Anyways thanks again and keep em coming.

At my school we had this wonderful resource known as the "library." You may have heard of it. I suggest that as a possible location for resources.

In a place like Mt. Ste. Anne/Quebec City you'll have plenty of ski historians - contact coaches and ask around - there'll be personal libraries and anecdotes galore.

Unfortunately a Library in Moncton NB does not have much as far as information on pre-world cup ski racing. MSA used to be my home hill, I don't race anymore so I'm stuck in a province that doesn't even know they have a provincial ski team.

Thanks for the Ideas though, when I go up for the coaches update I'l try to find something out.

I just hit the Google .... history of slalom ski racing ... and up came quite a few things.

One was even Chapter 3 on the History of racing ..

Try some of this stuff and see where the trail leads you.

The origins of Slalom were a Brit in Switzerland ... forget his name.

Also try some books like ... Come Ski With Me .. Stein Eriksen .... back when there was no commercialism allowed and even the brand of skis had to be taped over during the Olympics and amatuer events.

Perfect thanks Yuki!

Arnold Lunn was the guy's name by the way, he founded the Kandahar Ski club and when it first started I think it was open exclusively to British citizens :

Anyways With all of this I should be able to find what I need. If anyone else has suggestions as far as books I'm still open

Thanks again

Depends on how important this grade is to you ... ..... but I would make at least an inquiry down to UVM since they are a ski racing powerhouse and their library is almost sure to have a gold mine of books.

Take a weekend ... sides .. it's a bit of a party town ... it would be rough but ...

Does your library not have an interlibrary loan system? At my school we have a room full of people that do nothing but track down books and coordinate loans with other libraries.

That said, it does appear that UVM has a number of old and rare ski books under Special Collections. It may be worth a visit. You can search their catalogue online.

Being a french university they are pretty annoying with rules concerning english references and are not co-operative in finding books at other english university. I will be looking into the UVM thing though

If you have friends at a nearby english university, maybe find out what they can access through their library. It could save you far trips. Maybe get their password for their online journal article database.

Also, try scholar.google.ca to find research articles. Someone told me that I need to be on McGill's network to gain access but I'm not sure that's true. If it is, maybe your school has access as well.
