Last season I ran into this scenario.
1. I had my Spats done up at Porter's Tahoe City. That was the shop recommended for fatties (apparantly McConkey's crew works there). I offered beers (actually asked what their preferred brand was) and the techs replied "Dude, we have so much beer in our back room we really don't need any more at the moment. Thanks for offering though."
2. Took my Hot Rods back to Village Ski Loft for the third time as I kept blowing out the front tongue spoiler screws. The tech who had originally sold me the boots and had replaced the screws once the previous season, but was out the second time I came in, was there and redrilled and inserted some Chicago lugs. While he was doing that I asked if I could sport him a 6er for his troubles. His reply: "Sure." Not sure if VSL did this on purpose, but they are located above a liquor store. So while the tech was fixing my boots I went down, purchased a 6er, in a brown bag, and when i returned my boots were fixed and the brews were handed over. He was grateful, humble, and gave me the "You didn't need to, but thanks bro" show of appreciation.
So i think it can go either way. Honestly, I half thought about making cookies for the Porter's crew but then thought that might come of a little fey.
